SPRING TRAINING T-MINUS 6 DAYS AND COUNTING!

I’m doing something a little unusual today, and will probably continue the practice until Lent is over or I complete the work on two books that MUST be completed in the next six weeks.  I will tell you that GeorgieW is still in the batcave and I am getting more and more worried about her.  Rumsfeld and Miss Piggy are going to be pals!  They are sleeping next to one another right now.  I need to keep an eye on him for the next few weeks until she is a little bigger, but I think they are going to do well together!

There is an excellent new blog, Save Anderson County.  The importance of the blog is the fact that the blogger is linking various Anderson County politicos with all those tawdry and nasty little organizations I’ve been telling you about for months.    These are the same people I’ve been telling you about, who are targeting Lindsey.

JOSEPH FARAH AND HIS LIES

I do not like lies or liars.  I detest them.  I don’t like people who manipulate the truth, no matter what the race, code, creed, or party of origin, male or female.  Frankly, I’ve had it with World Net Daily and the constant canards, prevarications, half-truths, miss-statements, and outright lies of Joseph Farah and his bunch.  Let’s just take one example.  (I’ll have another tomorrow) World Net Daily has lied about the  Border Patrol story for months. Read a critique of WND's coverage . The damage Joseph Farah is doing to President Bush and intelligent, reasonable Republicans is, for the present, incalculable.  But, he is indeed doing damage.  My questions, are “Does he care what he is doing?” and “Why is he lying?”  I also want to know why more reputable sources don’t call him down for his lies, and either force retractions or go on the attack against a man who is truly out of control in his quest for influence in power.  He wasn’t content to make Bill Clinton’s life a living hell (and I am ashamed to admit I fell for it) but now he is out to destroy George W Bush for not kowtowing to the Farah who has become the conservative version of Charles Foster Kane, and all the name implies.  I sincerely feel Farah is a dangerous man.  One of these days he is going to get someone killed.

This is more of a Subway Canaries expose, but I think it is too important for the Subway Canaries.  It all started yesterday night, or maybe early this morning when I found a Newsmax article where Dana Rohrabacher is threatening to have the President impeached over the tawdry affair of two Border Patrol Agents who shot a man (running drugs) in the back, lied about it, covered their tracks, and went about their business.  As you know, I rarely use Newsmax because I find its sourcing questionable.  Check out the article about Rohrabacher demanding Bush’s impeachment over the PB agent issue.  It is so amazing how people leave all reason behind when it comes to immigration.

Because we are dealing with the hot button issue of Illegal Immigration, the Border Patrol agents were obviously right.  They are not to be questioned or prosecuted as ‘cops gone bad’, even though that is what they are.  Just surf the law enforcement forums for awhile.  Even though most cops think they received too stiff a punishment, many agree that cops gone bad need to be stopped.  In other words, all these guys had to do was fill out the proper form, hand in their shell casings (which is a very very big deal for cops) and take a little in-house punishment.

We have been treated to a tear jerking, hand-wring display of how these poor BP agents were only doing their duty, and how evil the Bush appointed prosecutor, John Sutton is, and how unqualified the presiding judge is.  World Net Daily has ‘taken the lead’ on the story, quoted through out the conservative blogsphere, and even by news sources.  Jerome Corsi  has been riding point on the story, quoted by one and all.  The conservative world is now so irate about the issue that some have even considering impeaching President George W. Bush over what amounts to yellow journalism promoted by Joseph Farah, and read by one and all.

FARAH IGNORED THE FOLLOWING

Andrew McCarthy has been doing an excellent job exposing the fallacy of the ‘law and order’ crowd.  Because McCarthy ia one of the staunch anti-immigration people, weight should be given to his work.  He has uncovered the DHS report of the Border Patrol incident which I suggest you take the time to read it.  I came away with the following information.

1.  Ramos and Compean did indeed shoot the suspect in the back.  Contrary to what WND claims, the left buttock was located in the BACK, REAR BEHIND of an individual.  The intent was obvious.

2.  They fired something like 12 shots, and hid the casings.

3.  Ramos admits he wanted to kill Aldrete-Divila.

4.  The agents did not know the suspect was a drug dealer at the time of the incident.

5.  When brought in for questioning, the agents told different stories.

6.  The suspect was given a border crossing card in order to be taken to Ft. Bliss so the bullet could be removed and then forensics could be done on it.

7.  Contrary to what WND is saying, only limited amnesty was offered to Aldrete-Davila, specifically for the incipient of that date and NO other.  He was not given blanket immunity.

“…Aug. 11, 2006, from statement US Attorney Johnny Sutton's office:

“At the initiation of their investigation, the DHS Office of Inspector General contacted Aldrete-Davila who was at the time in Mexico. Aldrete-Davila was at first reluctant to cooperate with the investigation because he feared that should he return to the United States, he could be prosecuted for the offenses committed in relation to the load of marijuana he was driving on February 17, 2005. In order to secure his cooperation and appearance at trial in the United States, this office agreed that in return for his truthful testimony he would not be prosecuted for the February 17, 2005 offenses. The agreement does not immunize any other conduct.”

FARAH LIES LEAD TO IMPEACHMENT THREATS

"I tell you, Mr. President, if these men - especially after this assault - are murdered in prison, or if one of them lose their lives, there's going to be some sort of impeachment talk in Capitol Hill," he said during a press conference in Washington, D.C.  "The president of the United States talks a lot about his Christian charity, and his religious beliefs," Rohrabacher said. "He now is showing a mean-spirited side to him, an arrogance, in which he will turn his back, even after one of these officers in prison has been brutally assaulted."

…"Aldrete-Davila was issued what amounts to a 'Gold Elite' border pass," Andy Ramirez, chairman of the Friends of the Border Patrol, told WND. "With the stamp for multiple entries into the United States, Aldrete-Davila didn't have to run the back roads as a drug smuggler any more. He could tell his drug bosses in Mexico that he could drive their loads right through border crossing points without much worry."

Google “Gold Elite Border Pass” – there is NOTHING.  such a thing does NOT exist.

What is obvious is WND is ignorant of the sheer numbers of people coming across the border from Mexico, every day at Juarez.

“…Medical records obtained by WND clearly establish the bullet wounds suffered by Aldrete-Davila involved a lateral wound to the left buttocks, not a "shot in the back" as repeatedly claimed by Sutton. The medical records document that March 16, 2005, Dr. Winston Marne removed a large bullet fragment from Aldrete-Davila's right thigh. The records indicate bullet fragments were found in Aldrete-Davila's pelvis but not removed. The path of the bullet is clearly described as entering in the left side of the left buttocks, traversing the groin area, and lodging in the right thigh. …”

I don’t know about you, but the last time I looked, the left buttocks was in the rear – back of a person.

Something needs to be done about World Net Daily and the STUPID conservatives who read it and believe every word in the conservative version of Weekly World Star or some other check out counter tabloid.

WND LIES ABOUT BORDER CROSSING CARDS

In this WND article,

“…Ramirez also was critical of Sutton's decision to issue Aldrete-Davila a multiple use border pass.

"I'd like to see the government's records on how many times Aldrete-Davila was in and out of the U.S. on that 'gold elite' government border pass Sutton gave the admitted drug smuggler. Who knows how many more loads of dope Aldrete-Davila brought into the U.S. with that card in his wallet?" What is most outrageous, Ramirez said, "is that a known doper was given the equivalent of the old Disney 'E-ticket….'"

They are called Border Crossing Cards.

Guess what, 20 days is the standard time.  It is not a “Gold Pass” or an “E Ticket”  That is a LIE.  World Net Daily is not telling the truth in this instance.

Now, read what the ‘locals’ in El Paso think about it

“…For years, Mexican visitors along the U.S.-Mexico border have been the jilted neighbors. Mexican citizens who have laser visas can come into the United States for only a month at a time. But on the northern border, Canadians can roam the United States for up to six months and they don't need any visa, just their passport….To now increase the time to six months may be little more than a symbolic gesture. That's because Canadians are also not limited by space. They can go anywhere in the United States, whereas Mexicans on laser visas must stay within 30 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border…In El Paso, an estimated 11.3 percent of retail sales can be attributed to Mexican shoppers, according to calculations by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas' El Paso branch. In Downtown El Paso, an estimated 70 percent of shoppers are travelers from Mexico, but most are on a day trip. A study by the Center for Border Economic Studies at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, found that more than half Mexican visitors came to Texas for a day trip and more than one-third came for one to seven nights. Mexican pedestrians, car and bus passengers were more likely to come for shorter periods. But 17 percent of airplane passengers stayed eight or more nights in Texas. …”

Why are Canadians better than Mexicans?

And you seriously think racism doesn’t play a role here?

I Googled 42 pages with the term, “World Net Daily Border Patrol” and came up with no reference to the story before the summer of 2006.

WND FEARFUL OF POLICE, BORDER PATROL, ETC.

Funny, but look how WND portrayed the Waco disaster.   Government bad, gun toting wacko good.    They call it government sponsored mass murder.  Now they can’t have it both ways, can they?

“…After Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents botched the raid on Koresh's church 10 miles east of Waco on Feb. 28, 1993, the FBI recklessly attacked the religious group 50 days later, on April 19, with tank-driving commandos, intent on avenging the death of four agents…”

And another WND article about how evil police agencies are.  Evidently only Border Patrol agents who are after evil illegal Mexicans are acceptable to them.

Here is an instance where WND sees a police/BP conspiracy.

WND FEARFUL OF TROOPS ON THE BORDER

Back during the Clinton Administration, WND was dead-set against any sort of troop build-up on the border, and in fact, invoked 1878 Posse Comitatus Act to hystarically criticize the Clinton Administration.

And in this same article, criticized the use of federal troops working with the Border Patrol.

“…Besides questions about the Army's Delta Force role during the Waco siege, most recently, in 1997, U.S. Marines assigned to assist the U.S. Border Patrol in combating illegal immigration accidentally shot and killed an 18-year-old goat herder. That force has since been withdrawn and reassigned, but lawmakers have remained committed to expanding the military's civil law enforcement role in other ways….”

WND'S CALL FOR TROOPS ON THE BORDER

But, by June 20, 2005, Farah was calling for troops on the border.    FYI, the Ramos/Compean incident occurred in Feb of 2005, but by June 20, still no mention of it in WND.  Why?

WND has now always been a supporter of the US Border Patrol.  Take this March 14, 2003 piece about the border patrol as an occupying force.   A few days later, Farah, himself wrote a piece about how the US gov’t. exceeds its authority on the border.

WORLD NET DAILY LATE TO RAMOS/COMPEAN STORY

The Ramos/Compean story does not hit WND until August 7, 2006!  http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51417  If the story was so important, why did it take WND so long to pick up on the story?  When was the next story?  It did not appear until October 20!  http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52545

With the exception of two other articles, WND drops the story until the week of Jan 19, 2007.  Here is the ‘search’ for the number of articles that appeared that week.

It really wasn’t until the week of Jan 19 that the story was picked up and thrown into the world wind.  If it was so important, why did World Net Daily wait until this late date to start promoting it?   Con Web Watch

The following comes from information from the Pat Gray Show.  If you read it, you will find, that even though Gray is anti-immigration, his account is far more reasonable than WND.

This is where I see a problem and have quite a few unanswered questions.

"...US Border Patrol Agent, Rene Sanchez –

Upon returning to Mexico, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila explains his misfortunes to his mother, who contacted the mother-in-law of Border Patrol agent Rene Sanchez in Wilcox, AZ.  According to a document, Rene Sanchez stated “that Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila's mother, Marcadia Aldrete-Davila, contacted Rene Sanchez's mother-in-law, Gregoria Toquinto, and advised her about the BP agents shooting Aldrete-Davila. Toquinto told her son-in-law, Rene Sanchez, of the incident, and he spoke to Osvaldo via a telephone call.”  Agent Rene Sanchez repeatedly called the Fabens Border Patrol Station requesting information to see if there were any seizures or shootings.  However, according to the Department of Homeland Security in a memorandum of activity document, Rene Sanchez stated that he queried the Border Patrol Tracking System (BPETS) and found that the Fabens Border Patrol Station seized a load of marijuana on February 17, 2005.  Agent Rene Sanchez assisted with securing an attorney for Aldrete-Davila to sue Agents Compean and Ramos in a civil case. Office of Inspector General Agent, Christopher Sanchez – Agent Christopher Sanchez served as an ICE agent in Arizona before lateraling over to OIG.   Mar. 2005, Rene Sanchez calls the Office of Inspector General at DHS and speaks to a Agent Christopher Sanchez who was a four-month trainee in OIG.

Agent Christopher Sanchez began investigating the case, and eventually he goes to Mexico and brings Davila back to El Paso.   The chain of evidence, including custody gets really murky at this point and Compean and Ramos are arrested, charged, and arraigned within days.  Agent Rene Sanchez’ mother in-law drove Aldrete-Davila to the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and he had a fragment of a bullet removed.  An Office of Inspector General memorandum contradicts US Attorney Sutton's claim that Ramos and Compean reported Aldrete-Davila was unarmed.  The memorandum of activity was written April 4, 2005, by Christopher Sanchez, the OIG investigator who questioned Compean about the Feb. 17, 2005, shooting.

 Christopher Sanchez memo notes:

Compean said that Aldrete-Davila continued to look back over his shoulder towards Compean as Aldrete-Davila ran away from him.  Compean said that he began to shoot at Aldrete-Davila because of the shiny object he thought he saw in Aldrete-Davila's hand and because Aldrete-Davila continued to look back towards his direction.  Compean explained that he thought the shiny object might be a gun and that Aldrete-Davila was going to shoot at him because he kept looking back at him.    Osvaldo [Aldrete-Davila] had told [Border Patrol agent] Rene Sanchez that his friends had told him they should put together a hunting party and go shoot some BP [Border Patrol] agents in revenge for them shooting Osvaldo. Osvaldo advised Rene Sanchez that he told his friends he was not interested in going after the BP agents and getting in more trouble.   According to the memo, Aldrete-Davila told investigators the agents shot him in the buttocks when he was trying to enter the country illegally from MexicoBut according to Aldrete-Davila's later testimony and that of the agents, he was shot after trying to evade the agents upon his re-entry into Mexico.  The memo never was disclosed to the jury...."
