Sorry for the downtime last night.  Blog Harbor was having problems with one of their associated servers.

 

The Great Cat Soap Opera continues.  I am a wreck.  Rumsfeld has been a little monster the entire day, a total and complete horror.  He started out the day by jumping up and down on the guest room bed the way a little kid would.  I have been upset about GeorgieW all day.  Maggie & Raymond arrived to clean. Rumsfeld was even worse.  He chased everyone.  I have no idea where Miss Piggy is.  Little Joe and the birth father are up in the bat cave with Georgie.  Then Robert came over to see if he could extricate Georgie from the bat cave.  Well – evidently it is quite large.  He has an excellent sense of smell, and could detect no odor of an alternative litter box, so she must be coming out in the evenings when no one is around so she can potty.  If this is the case, I’m just going to let her continue to do her thing.   I have no idea where Miss Piggy is.  Rumsfeld was such a nasty little monster this afternoon, she’s probably burrowed up into the mattress of my bed! 

 

Yes, I remember exactly where I was 43 years ago today and what - or rather who I was watching.  We were sitting on the edge of the bed in Karen Fedder's parents bedroom, glued to Ed Sullivan.

I have a question.  If you are the principal of a school and two men refuse to honor your request that they leave the premises, what would you do?  I know what I would do.  I would call the cops, which is exactly what transpired at the Key West School when two men illegally parked on school property and proceeded to approach students handing them Bibles.  I don’t care who the men were, if they were trying to be have honorably, they would have responded to her request.  I’m sorry, but in this day and age, you don’t know what a person is.  As far as I am concerned, the principal’s actions were justified and the two Gideons brought shame to a wonderful organization.

 

I actually have a theme for today.  It is Christians Gone Wild!  There are so many other things going on in the world, that not only do these things look petty, they are.  In many ways, because they are taking up time and the abject waste of tax money, they are almost criminal.  Some would argue that they just point to the road to secular progressive perdition, but give me a break!  If we are to truly be engaged in the War on Terror as a War for Western Civilization, we need to mend our own ways, and eliminate all traces of ‘taliban-like’ behavior on our part.  I’m going to give you several examples.  I use the Oconee County example because I know some of the people involved and know a few under-currents.  As I mentioned in an earlier posting,  one of the local ministers involved, Ted Edgar ran afoul of my mother years ago.  She threatened to have him arrested for trespassing if he and his wife came my elderly grandmother and aunt, so I have some insight into the situation there.

 

And so, once again World Net Daily has either lied or mis-represented a story.  From what I can tell the Alliance Defense Fund is also misrepresenting the Key West School story, big time.  I've been telling  you that WND (World Nut Daily) is the National Enquirer of 'conservatives', no make it the Weekly World Star, or some other tacky check-out stand tabloid.  I thought the Alliance Defense Fund was better than that.  The thing is, as far as the ADF and Oconee County I know enough of the parties involved to know that some of the cast of characters aren't exactly perfectly rational.  I look at like this.  If Henny Penny says the sky is falling, do  you pay attention to her?  Look at her track record.  BUT, if someone with the stature of the late great Carl Sagan were to say the same thing, I would believe him.  Why?  If you can't answer that, then you deserve to be conned.  WND is the 'Democrat' version of conserative sites - they LIE, PREVARICATE, CANNARD, CON, FAIL TO TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH!

 

More WND lies?  I am tracking the validity of their piece about two Gideons arrested outside the Key West School for distributing Bibles.  In another time and place, I would take their side, but there is a certain political and sociological reality we must deal with, unfortunately.  In many ways it makes our Founding Fathers almost psychic in their infinite wisdom of church/state.  If the Gideons, who are wonderful people on a great mission, are allowed to hand out Bibles in front of a school, then so can every Mohammad, Husain, and Akmad, who are representing their local mosque.   So can Sabrina the wicked witch bride of the coven of Satan.   From what I learned of school security today, every little thing freaks school administrators who are quaking in their offices, terrified they are going to be the next Columbine. 

 

According to an emailed response by Cheryl S. Smith, News Editor of the Key West Citizen, “They were arrested and arraigned. They say they were in the bike path. The school principal says they were on school grounds and refused to leave after she asked them to, so she called the Sheriff’s Office.”  This is quite different from the story told by WND and on the Alliance Defense Fund site. I Basically, it is much ado about nothing.  Especially if you read Smith's article.   This is a tempest in a teapot, that has nothing to do with freedom of religion.  It has everything to do with school safety.   These guys are wrong, and so is the ADF, not that you will hear any conservative blogs say so.

“…“The First Amendment protects the right to engage in religious speech on a public sidewalk,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel David Cortman.  “Members of the Gideons have been highly respected for decades as peaceful providers of free Bibles to those who want them.”  On Jan. 19, Mirto and Simpson began distributing copies of the Bible on a public sidewalk outside Key Largo School.  Neither man entered school grounds.  After the school’s principal called police, a Monroe County Sheriff’s officer asked the men to leave immediately or face trespassing charges.  As the men prepared to leave, the officer decided to arrest both individuals. …”

 

There are times when religion can run amok.  Take Anderson County, SC, please.  I moved away from it.  They are dealing with a set of seriously idiotic Blue Laws that hearken back to the Dark Ages. 

 

Then there is the Oconee County prayer problem.  According to the ADF,  Oconee County caved to pressure from the ACLU.  Now read Paul Hyde’s commentary. 

 

Do you remember the Tom Tancredo fiasco in South Carolina a few months ago?  Well, I have located additional information on one of the individuals involved.  His name is Ron Wilson.  Anyone who wants to give Tancredo a pass for his actions, after reading this, is crazy! 

 

IMMIGRATON

I think it is about time our dear anti-Bush, anti-immigration RIGHT conservatives take a breather, exhale, and read the DHS report of the Border Patrol incident.  It reads a heck of a lot differently than what we’ve been told by the right.   Andrew McCarthy has been on this story since the beginning.  Too bad no one is listening to him. To me this is a case of cops gone bad.  Just because they are BP agents pursuing those nasty illegal Mexicans is no reason to exonerate them because they were trying to shoot to kill, and the fact that they DID NOT KNOW the illegal in question was a drug dealer.  I can also see why he would be offered some immunity and brought over here.  If they could haul in some of the drug higher-ups, I would be doing the same thing.  Read a critique of WND's coverage.

William Kristol has a fascinating Weekly Standard piece about the cowardice of the GOP.  Evidently only a few good Republicans, such as Lindsey, have the courage to face the cameras.

Feith.  Then Wolf Blitzer did his usual Spanish Inquisition on Feith, only to admit, at the end, that the WPost has retracted the piece and admitted that Carl Levin leaked the story.  These people have no shame, that’s for sure.
