The anti-immigration hate-fest sponsored by FAIR this week in Des Moines was obviously designed to do serious damage to John McCain and aid the campaign of Fred Thompson, who came out sounding like an abject racist. . Any half-wit realizes it was designed to plump up their anti-immigration candidates, of whom Thompson is sounding more and more like the hard line person FAIR wants, and Romney who will flip and flop his way to border control – or maybe not. FYI – Sheriff Joe was in Des Moines campaigning for Romney.
As I reported yesterday, there are some interesting signs that the minutemen could be imploding from within.
The anti-immigration world turned on Jim Gilchrest with his endorsement of Mike Huckabee. Now the feeding frenzy continues as they begin to turn on Simcox. Then the other day, Newsbusters was forced to defend FAIR.

Then, we go over to Digger, who is the most rabid anti-immigration person I’ve seen who isn’t a card-carrying member of the KKK or something equally as vile. He is furious because FAIR did not promote their hate-fest in Iowa.

All of the radio hosts were there for two days, and if it was like DC, a number of them if not all, had their expenses covered by FAIR. Do I have sour grapes for not being able to be there? Well not really, I already had plans to be in New York with family over Christmas. If however I had been contacted enough in advance and given just a tad of financial support to get me in and out of Iowa, I might have cut my Christmas trip short and gone out there to provide coverage. Coverage for all of you out there who read this site and those who link to it and to others who only get their information online. Information that could spread and keep people informed about groups like FAIR and ALIPAC and Voice of the People USA and 9/11 Families for a Secure America….”

“…the subject matter of the radio hosts in Des Moines to broadcast their usual shows in their usual time slots. Some talked immigration, but the caucuses and the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto were also hot topics on Wednesday.  WHO radio's Jan Mickelson seemed to benefit from the event's appeal to candidates who wanted to reach potential Iowa caucusgoers. As other hosts talked to callers, FAIR-provided speakers or their own call-in guests, Mickelson nabbed the only morning interview with Fred Thompson, then chatted up Alan Keyes, followed by Ron Paul. Network cameras surrounded the interviews. "This is our only time we have an advantage," Mickelson said. "I can get access to candidates these big states can't and pretend to be important."  Mickelson said that judging by the calls from his listeners, immigration is one of the top three issues for voters. The others are education and the war. "We see the cost-shifting going on. Now, we have some objective numbers about the cost of illegal immigration in the state, and it's even more alarming." "Open Line" host Randy Renshaw of Sioux City station KSCJ said the callers he spoke with Thursday identified immigration their top issue.  Others who attended the event in hopes of discussing immigration included Chris Burgard, director of an award-winning documentary on immigration called "Border"; Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King; Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a group of citizens who volunteer to watch the border for immigrants; and Joe Arpaio, sheriff in Maricopa County, Ariz., and a supporter of presidential candidate Mitt Romney….”

A LOU DOBS JUGGERNAUT?
Now these same bunch wants to run Lou Dobbs. ABCNews reports that William Gheen of ALIPAC wants Lou Dobbs to ride in on his racist horse and save us all, God bless us every one!

“…ALIPAC's threat to back a third-party run by Dobbs came as the group began making thousands of anti-Huckabee calls in Iowa. Huckabee is being targeted by ALIPAC because Gheen believes the former Arkansas governor is using a recent endorsement by Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the Minuteman Project, which opposes illegal immigration, to shield his immigration plan from scrutiny "We've got a traitor to the movement and a lying candidate," said Gheen, referring to Gilchrist and Huckabee. Huckabee's immigration proposal, which he unveiled earlier this month, would require illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. to register within 120 days of the law's enactment and leave the country before gaining legal status in the United States. Illegal immigrants who fail to comply with the registration requirement would be deported and barred from re-entry for 10 years….

ALIPAC's anti-Huckabee calls, which are being made to 43,000 Iowa Republicans, are in the form of a poll. But the poll's phrasing is designed to spread rather than to gather information….To generate free-media coverage, ALIPAC plans to release the results of its skewed "survey" to the press. Gheen, who has met Dobbs once and has appeared on his show, has not had any direct contact with the CNN anchor about a presidential run. But that has not dimmed his belief that a Dobbs bid could prove necessary if the GOP nominates Huckabee, McCain or Giuliani instead of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, California Rep. Duncan Hunter, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, or former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
How much longer are we going to put up with you know what? I’m sick and tired of having the political agenda set by a few hard-up individuals who don’t give a rip about anything but their own agenda. Somewhere along the line this whole thing needs to stop and good, decent people need to stand up and say You Don’t Speak For Me!

It appears to me that there are three different segments of the anti-immigration movement:

1. The run of the mill voter who has been worked up on the subject by Lou Dobbs. This person truly believes that American security is at risk over the nasty people coming across the Mexican border. When they discover the truth - it isn't going to be pretty.

2. The anti-immigration wing-nuts who are basically "normal" like Gheen, who are basically not racist, but are just well over the top on the subject and are 'true believers' to the point where they are past making rational decisions on the subject, fall for FAIR's party line, but have not yet gone over to the dark side of the force.

3. The Dark Side - the hard-line racists, KKK, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, FAIR, haters, and those who promote the whole movement. They consist of several different groups of people - leaders, elected officials, and their foot-soldiers who do the dirty work.

Is it possible we are starting to see a movement built on a false premise and hate begin to splinter and fall apart. I truly hope so.
