PANIC IN THE STREETS?
The Politico thinks John Murtha is going to create serious problems for the House leadership with his unexpected announcement that the surge is working. Now what is Nancy Pelosi going to do. This is going to be soooo much fun. We’re having fun now. “… Pelosi, who is scheduled to speak to a Democratic National Committee event in Virginia on Friday, will surely face tough questions from reporters regarding Murtha's statement on the surge.
"This could be a real headache for us," said one top House Democratic aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "Pelosi is going to be furious." “

From Steve Maloney's email:
“…Murtha says: "mixed results from the Surge . . . inspired by the troops . . . they're making a terrible sacrifice . . . the real key is that the Iraqis are starting to step up in the provinces . . . the fact that the central government is not doing its job . . . we have to see some reports . . . Maliki thumbs his nose at America . . . we can't win it militarily . . . (But see later)
Wolf: statments you're making now are very different from Pelosi."
"I think the surge is working" (Murtha)
"We recommended more troops in Iraq" (Murtha, amazing)
"Miltarily, sure we can win." (opposite of what he said earlier)
"Militarily, there is no question about it militarily"
"We are not getting a plan . . ." (Murtha)
My impression: Pelosi and Obey are getting to him. He says we can't win militarily and then he says there's "no question" we can win militarily.

FROM WILLIAM RUSSELL
“…All,
We achieved a major step in the road to victory today and hit one of the most important measures of success that I set for myself before I entered this campaign.
Win or loose in the general election, I believe one of the most important objectives of this campaign was to turn the tide against the political undermining of our Soldiers in the fight and to force Murtha off of his anti-war stance. We are one of the key elements in making his position untenable. His actions today have weakened his position and thrown the anti-war movement’s political coalition into disarray. If we have accomplished nothing else to this point, we are helping turn the tide of the political battle and preventing a political defeat of the United States in the war against Islamic Radicalism.
A funny thing is happening on the way to the election: Mr Murtha is backtracking again on his stance and is showing his vulnerability. He is wavering. He can still be dangerous, but he is dazed and I believe we are hitting him where he felt most secure.
Thanks to the support of the people on this team, we are helping save this nation from those who do not understand that the freedoms and prosperity we enjoy are not free and willing to play politics with our safety and security.

The Murtha Muddle -
A QUICK MINI RANT
Is it possible the reason Murtha is back-tracking on Iraq is because of William Russell? I’ve heard there could be some fascinating polls coming out soon.
