SECESSIONISTS AND TREASON
"> Earlier today Texas Fred sent out an email about an op-ed he'd just composed. He seemed a little hot under the collar, and I don't blame him. Someone hit him smack dab in the face with the whole secessionist movement. Yes, it does exist. I've been telling you this for months. As you go through this information I hope you will come to the same conclusion I've reached. There is no other explanation for this than TREASON. These individuals are actively seeking to dissolve parts of the United States of America because it "no longer" meets their requirements for democracy, etc. I think these people should be exposed. When someone advocates the dissolution of the United States of America it is treason, pure and simple. As far as I am concerned, they should be dealt with accordingly.
Quickly, someone mistook Texas Fred's "Children of the Confederacy" blogroll as an endorsement of the whole secessionist movement.
The once reputable League of the South has this to say about secession. The ultra conservative Intellectual Conservative reviewed the League's Gray Book, A Blueprint for Southern Independence, giving it glowing praise.

Quickly, someone mistook Texas Fred's "Children of the Confederacy" blogroll as an endorsement of the whole secessionist movement.
"...Also, I don’t want ANYONE to misunderstand the concept of my blog roll entitled Children of the Confederacy, I do NOT support a return to the Confederacy, in ANY way, this Blog Roll is a tribute to the HISTORY of the Old South and it’s descendants, it is NOT an advocacy group calling for a return TO that lifestyle and ANYONE that is a member of the Children of the Confederacy that feels otherwise can request their site be removed from the roll immediately, an email request will suffice…"
I don't mind admitting I was once a card carrying member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, which is a GENEALOGICAL organization, like the DAR, Mayflower Society, or even the Colonial Dames. I am a member of the DAR, and qualify for both other organizations, FYI. I allowed my UDC membership to lapse because I have a serious problem with the connotations of the whole political disaster that has become the Sons of the Confederacy. Enough said.
There is a very serious secessionist movement in this country. Like Texas Fred's email, I received one in my inbox the other day that seriously alarmed me.
Now I don't know how this reads to me, but I don't like it one bit. The first question is What is the Patriot Movement? According to the Patriot Movement, they are dedicated to "restoring the basic rights" of American Citizens. There is another American Patriot Movement web site. I don't know if they are overtly secessionist - just yet - but they're running close. The SPLC connects it with a few rather disreputable groups, but you be the judge here.

The once reputable League of the South has this to say about secession. The ultra conservative Intellectual Conservative reviewed the League's Gray Book, A Blueprint for Southern Independence, giving it glowing praise.
"...The Grey Book contains the occasional historical exegesis that will raise the ire of Lincolnites and consolidators of every stripe. For example, the author explains that the Articles of Confederation (1778) as well as the Treaty of Paris (1783) acknowledged the sovereignty of each of the thirteen colonies/states and, that these sovereign states entered into a voluntary compact when, after much debate, they accepted the Constitution (1787). The crux of the issue is simply that the federal government did not create the states, rather the states established the federal government, and did so with specific, enumerated powers.
The League of the South seeks not only a restoration of these constitutional principles but a “free and prosperous Southern Republic,” founded on “private property, free association, fair trade, sound money, low taxes, equal justice before the law, secure borders, and armed and vigilant neutrality.”
Will there ever be a Confederation of Southern States? Poland, after all, took over 100 years to rise, as a nation, out of the ashes of war. The Southern republican remnant is established on a rich, historic, and vibrant Christian faith, which places them in a good position to endure the challenges that lie ahead. As Southern rhetorician, Richard Weaver, once wrote, the South bears the distinction of being “…the last non-materialist nation in the world.” Today, few Americans understand that compliment.
We must understand that these people are the descendants of men who marched twenty miles in the heat of August, subsisted on rations that would not fill the belly of a child, fought an enemy that outnumbered them three-to-one, and won the day. They are a patient people, jealous of their freedoms, and determined to succeed. The Grey Book proclaims, “The League’s primary goal is to counter the lies and distortions that have lulled people into a fatal misunderstanding of their condition in order to bring hope and encouragement in place of despair.”
The Grey Book is a well-written manifesto that explains the goals and objectives of the secessionist League of the South. It is an inherently American document meant to describe the virtues of republicanism, the political philosophy of the founding generation, and it succeeds wonderfully!"

They say Secession wasn't treason?
"...It is interesting that those people never mention the fact that the New England states threatened secession three times--that's right three times--before 1860. In 1814 delegates from those New England states actually met in Hartford, Connecticut to consider seceding from the Union. Look up the Hartford Convention of 1814 on the Internet if you want a little background. Hardly anyone ever mentions the threatened secession of the New England states. Most "history" books I've seen never mention it. Secession is never discussed until 1860 when it suddenly became "treasonous" for the Southern states to do it. What about the treasonous intent of the New England states earlier? Well, you see, it's only treasonous if the South does it.
Columnist Joe Sobran, whom I enjoy, once wrote an article in which he stated that "...Jefferson was an explicit secessionist. For openers he wrote a famous secessionist document known to posterity as the Declaration of Independence." If these black racist groups are right, that must mean that Jefferson was guilty of treason, as were Washington and all these others that aided them in our secession from Great Britain. Maybe the black racists all wish they were still citizens of Great Britain. If that's the case, then as far as I know, the airlines are still booking trips to London, so nothing is stopping them.
After the War of Northern Aggression against the South was over (at least the shooting part) the abolitionist radicals in Washington decided they would try Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States as a co-conspirator in the Lincoln assassination (which would have been just great for Edwin M. Stanton) and as a traitor for leading the secessionist government in Richmond, though secession had hardly been original with Mr. Davis. However, trying Davis for treason as a secessionist was one trick the abolitionist radicals couldn't quite pull off...."

"...*Are those who favor SC independence intolerant racists who are living in the past? Of course not, that's only an elitist media-stereotype. In reality, we are simply patriots who believe that we could better manage our affairs than could a far-off centralized government in Washington, DC. We also have a legal and cultural right to self-determination. We recognize that several nations of people call S.C. home and we encourage them as united groups to support independence since it's in the best interest of all of us to control our own destiny. Yet, we oppose multiculturalism and political-correctness as they blend and destroy national diversity. We revere our heritage but we're looking to the future. The issue of self-determination hasn't changed for South Carolinians - be it 1776, 1860 or 2007.
*Aren't you proud of being Americans? Of course we are! Like the Founding Fathers, we see America as a vast Western civilization of many republics and nations and we want to preserve the best qualities of our own corner of this land and build an even greater future for our people. When Southerners seceded in 1860-61 they continued to honor George Washington, the Declaration of Independence, etc. Southerners didn't stop being Americans when they left the Union - they merely revoked their participation in a failed political union of American republics.
*Do you really believe this is possible? Of course it is! Look at the very recent example of Montenegro. The people there voted for secession in a peaceful manner and it was recognized by the world. Or consider the examples of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, etc. Secession is the way of the future for sovereign national communities of people to regain control of their lives...."

"The Chattanooga Declaration
Adopted at the Second North American Secessionist Convention, October 4, 2007, Chattanooga, Tennessee
We, the delegates of the secession movements represented at the Second North American Secessionist Convention, acknowledging our differences, yet agree on the following truths:
1. The deepest questions of human liberty and government facing our time go beyond right and left, and in fact have made the old left-right split meaningless and dead.
2. The privileges, monopolies, and powers that private corporations have won from government threaten everyone’s health, prosperity, and liberty, and have already killed American self-government by the people.
3. The power of corporations endangers liberty as much as government power, especially when they are combined as in the American Empire.
4. Liberty can only survive if political power is returned from faraway and self-interested centers to local communities and states.
5. The American Empire is no longer a nation or a republic, but has become a tyrant aggressive abroad and despotic at home.
6. The states of the American union are and of right ought to be, free and self-governing.
7. Without secession, liberty and self-government can never be sustained, and diversity among human societies can never survive.
