TANCREDO HANGS IT UP!
I will admit I've not been this excited about the departure of a member of Congress since the day Butler Derrick called it quits and Lindsey decided to "go for it"! This is almost as good. According to the Rocky Mountain News, Tom Tancredo is not going to seek re-election in 2008. Okay, our next question - What's he up to?
So, let's have some fun today and watch all the anti-immigration hard-liners cry in their beer. It is a good day!
"...Even if he loses his long-shot bid for the White House, Rep. Tom Tancredo will be leaving the U.S. House of Representatives at the end of 2008.
Tancredo, 61 , waited until after the Colorado Rockies' last out of the World Series on Sunday night before announcing that he plans to retire from Congress at the end of this, his fifth term.
"It's the fact that I really believe I have done all I can do in the House, especially about the issue (immigration) about which I care greatly," he said.
Tancredo said other people are now taking up leadership on the immigration issue.
On a personal note, he added, "I am certainly looking forward to a time when at least a week can go by when I don't have to get on an airplane."

The decision is not a surprise, considering Tancredo's repeated complaints that his presidential run was taking a heavy toll on him and his family. But it is sure to set off a mad succession scramble in his solidly conservative, suburban Denver district.
Tancredo parlayed a back-bench seat in Congress into a national megaphone to oppose illegal immigration, denounce a so-called "cult of multiculturalism" and warn about a "clash of civilizations" between radical Islam and Western civilizations.
Those issues have been the centerpiece of Tancredo's bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, although he has yet to break out of single digits in most polls. That campaign continues, with the first votes scheduled in the Iowa precinct caucuses in January..."
A HAPPY MINI RANT
I just want to now what those poor souls at Tancredo Watch are going to do when they don't have TT to kick around any more. This is just too good to be true. There must be a hitch somewhere. Let's face it TT will do a Larry Craig and run again. The man's a sleaze who will probably go back on his word and run for re-election. I don't trust him. But, for now, I will celebrate. Of course the ego that is Tancredo will probably opt for a Senate run before it's over. One does wonder about a few things. With John Tanton calling the shots, and giving considerable amounts of money to Tancredo over the years, has Tanton pulled his support? Or does Tanton have other plans for him. We all know John Tanton is probably the most powerful person in the country right now. Tancredo doesn't do a thing without Tanton pulling the strings. Don't ever think the two aren't up to something.
Then again according to some rumblings I've been reading these past few years in and out of Colorado, there is the possibility that, given decent opposition, he might not be able to pull off a re-election bid.
