I think one of the things that has shocked me is the fact that some otherwise well educated men, including Rush, are absolutely shocked to discover that women who achieve power are ruthless.  Where the heck have they been?  It doesn’t matter where that power is – business, school, home, political – women are ruthless in dealing with their opposition.  Let’s face it, we need to go back to that old discredited evolutionary theory of survival of the fittest.  If a woman wanted her children to survive, she had to be absolutely ruthless in order to insure that survival.  Go back through history and list the very few women who both achieved and held on to power.  The only way they did so was to be completely and absolutely ruthless and to play the political game much better then the men around them.  The perfect example is Elizabeth I.

“…Hegemonism is the doctrine holding that every American action on the international stage should be examined under suspicion of evil intent. And what does it foresee occurring in Iraq - and the Middle East at large - after the United States pulls out?

This is no trivial question. Hegemonist doctrine is a major factor in the rush toward abandonment of American responsibilities in the Persian Gulf. The hegemonist worldview is today dominant in American culture. With the effective collapse of the conservative consensus over the past half-decade, there is nothing to stand against it. It is the controlling ideology in the media, in the entertainment world, in the schools, and in the Democratic Party. If asked to bet on the fate of American Middle East policy in the near future, the safe move would be to put money on general withdrawal before the 2008 election. The only thing opposing this outcome is the boldness and determination of George W. Bush himself - not a good situation in a democracy….

…We do know that the impulse behind it is the hegemonist doctrine. No other force is keeping the U.S. from playing its international role. No outside element could possibly succeed in holding the country back. Only internal pressure from the media, the educational establishment, the universities, the Democrats. Finally, something concrete about the real good embryonic stem cells actually do – please note my sarcasm.  It comes from Julia Gorin .

But in 2001 the New England Journal of Medicine reported on a U.S. study in which patients implanted with fetal stem cells started to writhe and twist about, jerking their heads and flinging their arms, chewing constantly, flexing and distending their wrists, and moving their fingers up and down. One subject reacted so negatively that he now needed a feeding tube (and we know where that leads).

 If the Democrats are right, one day healthy embryos will revitalize old men, who will start to feel great again, take Viagra and start cheating on their wives with younger women, impregnating them with their mutated sperm — which increases schizophrenia risk and causes less healthy children in general — leading to more sicklings clamoring for more embryonic stem cell research. Embryonic stem cell research is already improving the economies of third-world countries like the Ukraine, where healthy new-born babies were killed "to feed a flourishing international trade in stem cells…Ukraine has become the self-styled stem cell capital of the world. There is a trade in stem cells from aborted foetuses, amid unproven claims they can help fight many diseases…The pictures show organs, including brains, have been stripped—and some bodies dismembered..."

From John Fund in today’s Opinion Journal’s Political Diary:  Please take note that those new Dem congresspersons who campaigned as ‘conservatives’ and conned good Republicans, Libertarians and conservatives into voting for them have already begun to march lock-step with the liberals.  I TOLD YOU SO!  They have already voted with HRM Nancy I to set up a situation to raise taxes.  Oh you poor deluded conservatives who thought you would teach the GOP a lesson.  The only one who is going to be taught a lesson is you – for falling for their lies. 

“Yesterday, the new House Democratic majority pushed through its package of rules which will govern that body for the next two years. A key rule put in place by the old Republican majority provided that a three-fifths majority of the House was required to raise taxes. Democrats opened up a canyon-size loophole in the rule on Thursday by changing the rule to allow it to be dropped by a simple majority vote.

 

When Republicans sought to restore the original three-fifths requirement, every Democrat voted against the proposal. Among those voting against the taxpayer protection provision were 20 members who in the past had supported a Constitutional amendment requiring a two-thirds supermajority to raise taxes, a much more stringent provision. But that was then, the next election is two years away and now Democrats have power back.

 

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, believes that the actions of the Democratic majority on their opening day are a clear indication of their true intentions. "After spending an entire year on the campaign trail claiming she will not raise taxes, the first vote Nancy Pelosi brings to the floor for a vote as Speaker will open the door to billions and billions of dollars of tax increases," he said.

This is one of the dearest things I've seen in a long time:  A pet prayer and praise blog! 

This comes from a colleague of mine who lives in Eastern Kansas.  How much of this have you heard on the national news?  And, as he noted, no where near there is FEMA.  Looks to me like certain parts of the US get more assistance in a disaster than others. 

 

“…Out in western Kansas, many are still without electricity, cattle wandered away or died after getting as much as 36" of snow last weekend driven by 40 mph winds. My sister and her husband farm about 120 miles straight west of here. They had 4" of rain and freezing rain then a foot of snow. They've been out of electricity since Saturday morning, cattle wandered away, no way to pump water for the cattle that stayed home. My brother-in-law went to town to get water for the cattle but the city wouldn't allow it as they were out of electricity and needed the water for the folks in town.  Anyway, it's a real disaster west of Dodge to the plains of Colorado. 10,000 light poles down in Kansas alone, probably a like number in Colorado. The National Guard is flying feed to cattle and breaking ice on streams so the cattle can get water. No good guesses yet as to the number of cattle lost. Even worse will be the weight loss sustained by the cattle. Estimates of loss per head on fat cattle is about 100 lbs. That's big bucks to a state that has 2,400,000 head on feed when cattle are selling for $88 per cwt. That loss is not covered by insurance.”
