Long ago in an Administration far away…(cue music)

It was a period of cold war.

NASA spaceships, launching

from KSC have won

their first victory against

the evil Democrat Party.

During the battle, Democrat

spies manage to steal secret

plans to the Administration’s

ultimate weapon, the SDI

an space based weapon

system with enough power to

save the entire planet.

Pursued by the Administration’s

worst enemies, President

Reagan races against time in his

Oval Office, custodian of the

sacred plans that can save his

people        and        restore

freedom to the galaxy…..

James Oberg, space expert, discusses the Chinese Space incident.

Do you see me running around like Chicken Little over the Chinese Death Star?  Nooooo….Why might you ask?  SDI – Star Wars (Cue the Music)  I spent nearly 10 years lobbying for it.  Yes, I was a dirty “L” word – lobbyist. That Chinese anti-satellite weapon – so not good!  Yet - it is the best of times - we may get more SDI money!  Called As Seen.

It has snowed all day here.  I can't get over the fact that we only have about 6" right now.  It is snowing heavily this evening.  They are predicting an inch every hour, esp. up in the mountains.  Good day to stay in and play on the internet.  I did order a new notebook today - a small Sony I can take in the car and work while the parents have their medical appointments.

Mel Martinez has been elected RNC chair.

Bat Masterson has a new nick-name.  He is now Brat Masterson.  I think it self-explanatory!

The little squirts are having a snow day.  I’ve discovered they are like baby birds.  As long as the room is quiet, dark and warm they sleep.  Actually they crashed!  Yesterday was a very busy day.  Finally, about 3:30 this afternoon I went down and turned on FOX news for them and turned on the lights.  I can hear them waking up – sounds like baby elephants.  Last night I think the little red guy (Okay, I’m keeping him – as long as he is going to be okay) tried to climb the pet gate.  They kept me busy until 2AM when I finally went down and turned off all the lights.  Mommy Cat kept moving them down to my bedroom (55degrees compared to 65degrees).  If they go down there, I lose control. 5:15PM.  The ongoing game of musical kittens has begun.  Mommy Cat dropped little calico on the way over the pet gate.  Rumsfeld ratted her out, so I grabbed baby and held her for a minute, put her back in the nursery and then put up the 2nd barricade.  This is getting old, fast.  I have it set up now where she can move ‘em all she wants and the only place they can go is to the hallway or the litter box.  5:50 I rescue the little red one who is being batted by Brat Masterson.  5:57 discover my pot of chili is boiling over like a volcano.

Yesterday when I did my draft rant, I explicitly said women should not be drafted.  I think young women would benefit from some sort of service, but maybe it is time to revert back to the ‘old days’ when men were men and knew how to be men and women were women and knew how to act like ladies.  (More below in today’s rant)

The whole Anglican-Episcopalian fight over the break-away churches in Virginia is now heading to court.  Did these people think they could get away with their actions and not face serious consequences.  We hear about the heart-ache of the people doing the breaking away, but rarely hear anything about those they leave behind.  My problem is what about the people who have not left the church?  Where do they now go to worship?   And George W. Bush – Episcopalian! (not Anglican)   FYI – Early church, Rite I – thirty minute quickie service – lot’s more kneeling than Rite II.  (FYI – I prefer Rite II, #C – I call it the Star Trek Eucharist)

The superbug -    Storm worm -

Do I care if my large purse is a health hazard?  I guess the nanny state will want to ban these, next.  My personal opinion, we are living in the golden age of  handbags!

This reminds me:  The Navy relieves a sub commander of his command after an incident where several sailors were killed. Years ago I had a business associate who was a CPO on a sub the same time Jimmy Carter, the terrorists friend, was a commander.  He said Carter had the reputation of being the worst captain in the business.

MY BORDER PATROL RANT

I know of several incidents, related to me, personally. One is absolutely deplorable and involves the Border Patrol driving up to Hondo, NM to assist the US Marshals in arresting a man they decided was illegal because his driver’s license was stolen by some from Juarez and used in a murder.  They held guns on he and his family while they proved they were not here illegally.  There was no benefit of the doubt.  He was then taken to our county jail until the family’s attorney called and put the fear of God (and a multi-million dollar false arrest and defamation lawsuit) into the arresting officers.  My friends are Republican.  Their family has been in New Mexico since the Conquistadors.  This was the first time they have ever been asked to prove they were not illegal.  The BP literally burst into the family home late in the evening, held my friend at gun point, and arrested his son.  They held his family at gun point.  According to my friend, he was terrified they were going to start shooting.

The worst part of it, they had a description of the murderer.  In no way did it fit my friend’s son.  The BP agents and US Marshals did not care.  They refused to take the word of my friend and his wife because they weren’t sure if they were illegal or not.  We’re talking military discharge papers, photos, birth certificates, etc.

Don’t ask me for sympathy for these two men who are now going to jail.  If they had been ATF agents firing on an 'unarmed' innocent militia guy, the conservatives would want to fry the ATF.

 MY DAILY RANT

Have you read the Opinion-Journal   piece on GWB and his legacy, like “Legacy?  We don’t need no stinkin’ legacy!”  When someone is like that one day, their legacy will be huge.  Has anyone noticed how much this man is being compared to Lincoln?  Now I will admit, as someone who grew up in the ‘Old South’ I have a certain illogical bias about Lincoln.  But, as a historian, I must that bias aside (not that I want to) and admit he was a fascinating person.  Considering he is the ‘god’ of American presidents, it isn’t exactly an insult for GWB to be compared to him.  This whole thing at SMU is disgusting, and every Methodist should be humiliated.  Frankly, I am hoping a little common sense will prevail and they will end up putting the library in Midland.  There’s this absolutely perfect spot for it near the Haley Library.  Along this line, sort of, Peggy Noonan has an interesting piece about the upcoming Speech next week.

Brendan Minitar -  Opinion Journal – Political Diary –  on Mel Martinez being elected to the post as the head of the RNC.

“…Mr. Bush has taken such a shine to Mr. Martinez because of the Cuban émigré's personal story of building a new life in America. But not every Republican is enamored with Mr. Martinez. Grassroots activists have vented their frustration on the Internet and in conservative publications like Human Events, saying voters didn't endorse an "amnesty" for illegal aliens in the Midterm elections. But Messrs. Bush and Rove are clearly worried that the fallout from last year's immigration battles, including defeat of the White House's guest-worker proposals, will result in Hispanic voters abandoning the Republican Party. Hispanics are the fastest growing minority in America. In 2000 -- when Mr. Bush barely squeaked past Al Gore -- the GOP captured a little more than 20% of the Hispanic vote. By 2004, the GOP share of the Hispanic vote had more than doubled to 44%. Lesson: In the future, the White House is unlikely to be reachable for the GOP unless it can command a sizeable allegiance among voters of Latin descent.   “… Note to anti-immigration people, don’t you get it?

In this vein, the Blog Critics article I did on Tancredo is generating quite a few comments.  I also want to thank Liz Mair over at GOP Politics for puting up a nice post about the article.

My favorite comes from a person identified as Dr. Kurt, “As a Coloradoan, let me enlighten y'all about Tancredo. He represents a congressional district composed of wealthy white people, sterotpically(sic) ex-Californians who sold their old homes for a half million dollars and bought new McMansions (sic) south of Denver. These folks vote Republican by reflex. Tancredo will never get elected outside this district - he has no political (sic) future as a senator or governor in Colorado. Most of us, Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian, regard him as an embarrassing moron with a chronic case of foot-in-mouth disease and an enormous ego. He is not a statesman, and his repeated use of "gosh, I didn't know" is disingenious.(sic) And yes, we are all judged by the company we keep. We deserve better minds in congress and in the media.”

Kissinger says withdrawal is not an option.

Read Greg Richard’s piece over on American Thinker about MSM, Iraq, winning and losing.  There is one thing you aren’t hearing in the MSM.  I’ve been getting indications of it from other bloggers who follow the story closely, but not even from FOX.  Evidently Al Qaeda may be fleeing Baghdad in anticipation of that much lamented troop ‘surge’.

We understand the reason the Dems oppose the ‘surge’ but what about the GOP?   I am thinking certain individuals are doing so because they are more interested in pandering to their constituents.  It is obviously they are working from a point of personal and intellectual weakness rather than strength of character.  Oh, there is much posturing from RIGHT ideologues like Hugh Hewitt that these RINO Republicans are pandering to be re-elected.  The problem is with one or two exceptions like John Warner,

What if – just what if- all this Dem opposition to the ‘surge’ is because they are terribly afraid GWB may just be right and will come out of this smelling like a hybrid tea rose.  I really don’t understand the Dems.  (Oh, shut  up) They rant and rail about GWB not raising troop levels.  I seem to remember them campaigning on it.  Now that he is raising levels, they are complaining about him doing so.  One thing that never ceases to surprise me, and I don’t know why, is the abject intellectual dishonesty of the Left.  Only if what they want comes the way they want is it acceptable.  Same thing with those 80 professors or so from Duke.  It isn’t the fact that those three lacrosse players were accused and harassed via racism, but the fact that just because they were white athletes they deserved “It” even if they were innocent because they are ‘example’.  Symbolism over substance.

Because George W. Bush stole the election from algore, he is to be destroyed.  It’s that simple.  It really doesn’t matter if the country goes down in flames or people die in the process.  It’s the message that counts.

Somehow this takes me back full circle to yesterday’s Draft Rant – and why women should be excluded. Why?  It is quite simple.  If women want to volunteer, fantastic!  I wish I could have been a fighter pilot…or an astronaut…!  Women can do anything we darn well want to do. I guess that’s the whole problem isn’t it.  We get it all – all – and men only get half.  We get to go around blathering about equality and we should be allowed to do what ever we want, and men are basically forced into a template.  Tough luck.

DEMS GONE WILD

Would someone PLEASE explain to me why HRM Nancy I and HRM Dirty Harry are lobbying a preemptive strike against the White House to prevent a pre-emptive strike on Iran?  What are they up to now?  GOP Blogggers

I’m not a Hugh Hewitt fan, and I think this one of the few times I’ve ever linked to him. But we must do so for that bloody Fox poll.  It is very revealing.  Maybe the Dems aren’t fooling that many people after all, and the ‘treasonous conservative lobby’ who either stayed home or voted libertarian to ‘teach those nasty Republicans a lesson’ could be responsible for this mess.

Okay, I've calmed down.  I nearly had what my cousin called a 'strike' when he was a little kid.  Did you happen to catch H&C this evening.  (I am trying not to use my favorite adjective I will not say what it is, but I think you can supply your own here.) Steve Cohen the new Dem liberal IDIOT who replaced Harold Ford, Jr. in the House.  He lives near someone I know, who voted for him.  I sent this person an email telling her that Cohen is an _ . _. then called to tell her the same thing.  The man isn't firing on all thrusters.  At least I can be PROUD of my friends who are in Congress - Lindsey Graham and Gresham Barrett!

Outside the Beltway is having another traffic jam.

In the Bullpen is on a roll today.  First there is the commentary on global warming and Texas weather.  As Iive next door to Texas, I can vouch for him.  Then Malkin's trip to Iraq.

PRIMARIES 2008:  Another ego into the ring.  This time it is the Governor of NM.  I have a friend would will be thrilled. Obamarama  Flop has the news that Giuliani is leading in 7 of 8 BIG STATE polls.  Romney is barely a pimple on the face of an acne prone teenager.  It is an ARG poll, and that's a good poll.   Obama slammed by Hillary.  Who leaked the Obama story?  The Huckabee fundraiser.  McCain v. Romney.  Romney v. McCain.  Murder-suicide anyone?
