THE FORCE IS WITH US!

(Cue the Indiana Jones theme, please)

Evidently The Force Is With Us!   and a tip of the fedora! Aside from George Lucas being honored today at the Rose Parade, he made a really big announcement last night…we need to cue the John Williams music here…Indy will be back!  Evidently there is a script.  If Lucas said filming would begin next year, and that was 2006 does this mean filming will begin in 2007?  And I thought George Lucas was quitting the movies.  I am still holding out just a tiny bit of hope that we might get the last three Star Wars.  Reason?  Han Solo!  So, do you have plans for Memorial Day weekend of 2008?  I’m going to be spending it keeping up with the Joneses!

A hat tip to WizBang for recognizing the importance and fun of the day!  When video does show up, it may be here.

Would someone please explain how I managed to get 29,555 hits yesterday bringing my monthly total to 75,277 on The Pink Flamingo.  The Subway Canary pulled in a respectable 10,507, which is good for The Subway Canary. Previously, my biggest hit day was about 8,000.  So, for 2006, between The Subway Canaries and The Pink Flamingo, we pulled a respectable 401,425.  I know it isn’t astronomical, but I am extremely happy and want to thank you.  I just wish I knew what I was doing right so I could keep it up for you!

Nothing exciting is going on today in the saga of Mommy cat and the lttle ones.  She is up and around more now that they are growing.  Last night when Rumsfeld was heading down the steps to the nursery she went at him.  Had the little monster cowering in fear.  We need to start round-up sometime this week.  Bat Masterson, Little Joe, and Redford are all due for the big snip.  I also need to catch the father cat and find a new home for him.  He is terrorizing GeorgieW who is cowering in the 'bat cave' under the kitchen cabinets.  I need to find homes for the three little red kittens.

My Giulty Pleasure Chick Flicks Part II is up at Blog Critics.

Last night I ended up watching One Night with the King  until 2:AM.  I highly recommend this one for teenage girls.  It is very, very well done and expresses all the qualities I worked so hard to hammer into the heads of the girls in my group at church:  faith, honor, chastity, courage, decency, loyalty, and love.  A new rendition of Ester, it is beautiful, lush, romantic, and fairly accurate.  With a cast that includes a cameo by Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif   and Indy’s side-kick John Rhys-Davies (one of my favorites) it isn’t bad.  The only real drawback was the choice of Luke Gross as Xerxes.  He is a terrible actor, far too shallow to play one of the world’s great conquerors.  The film could have been transformed from a lush Biblical chick-flick to something far stronger if someone else besides Gross (very appropriate) had played Xerxes.  I do recommend the film especially for teenage girls.

Adapted from Hadassah, One Night with the King by Tommy Tenney  the film becomes a morality tale for girls.  We live in a world where girls and young women are constantly exposed to the X-rated exploits of Brittany, Lindsey, Paris, and Niccole.  It is about time today’s girl has a much different role model.  Unless a child is exposed to stories from the Bible and the Torah they will never know the richness of a heritage that includes a powerful, courageous and strong young woman who risked everything including her love, marriage, and even her life to protect her people.  This is where all complaints about the film should be ignored.  Young people need more movies like this.  They need to be challenged and shown there are alternatives to sex, drugs, and rock in roll.  Girls need to know there is more to life than an all-night binge party and being photographed sans panties.

I know it sounds preachy and self-righteous but we, as adults, have a responsibility to facilitate inspirational and worth-while media productions.  As a writer I have a responsibility to produce something worth-while that might make life a little clearer for the kids of the world.  I decry the clarion cry that sex, foul language, and nudity are necessary as an art form.  Fine, go ahead and make money with it.  I don’t care.  But, I think some of us need to follow the example of Michael Sajbel and produce books and films that rise above the baser aspects of life and encourage and inspire.

One Night with the King is the story of a kind, decent teenager who is suddenly thrust into a situation today’s girl will never know.  Because of Esther’s kindness, her strength, courage, and faith in God she saved her people.  We live in a world where it is entirely conceivable the Jewish people are going to need many more Esthers.  It is a lesson we all need to learn.

Tiffany Dupont, as Esther, will convince girls.  In the opening scenes she is the ‘typical’ Hebrew teenage girl, orphaned (orphans are always glamorous for some odd reason) and being raised by a somewhat strict but doting uncle who is a scribe (secretary) at the court of King Xerxes I.  She is kind, happy, loving, and is beloved in her community.  When she is rounded up in the ultimate beauty contest cattle call, she rallies the other terrified girls, and disarms palace officials with her kindness, wisdom, pure simplicity of heart and soul, and her mind.  Uncorrupted by the wealth that surrounds her, her pureness of heart and simplicity is what attracts her to the king.  Never forgetting the lessons of her Hebrew faith, she remains chaste until her wedding night, thereby attracting the love of the king even more.

Dupont grows with the role.  No longer the teenager she transforms into a regal queen who holds the heart of her husband in the palm of her hand.  When she must chose between her faith and love for her people and the love of her husband and her life, she makes the most difficult choice of all.  Willing to risk everything for her faith, she cements her husband’s love and saves her people.  It is a lesson of courage, disobedience, and individuality.  Only through strength of character does she persevere. The story is romantic dramatic and it is the ultimate beauty contest.  It is the ultimate Chick Flick.  There’s nothing wrong with romance, drama, melodrama, glamour and happy endings, especially if those ends are achieved through the loftiest of motives.  Girls need fantasy and dreams.  This is a very good movie for just that. The lessons in faith, courage, honor, decency, chastity, love, and kindness are just an added bonus.

You need to read Captain's Quarters for two updates on Islam in Africa.    And Powerline. And from Hot Air.  It fascinates me how little this story is being covered.  Counterterror Blogs says the Islamists have bailed.  AJ Strata has info about the attacks in Thailand. According to AJ Strata, the Litvienenko trail now comes to the US.   Strata seems to be one of the only people keeping up with this story that is so fanciful it wouldn't even make it to a James Bond movie.  Speaking of which, the last one was excellent but the worst Bond movie ever.  Read Stolen Thunder today.  You also need to read Malkin about the heart-break of one of our brave military families.   Sometimes there are just so many people to pray for - how do we remember them all?

Every once in awhile there is a really good UFO story.  This is one of them.   Travelers coming to the US may soon have their email and credit card charges checked.  All those EBay charges are certainly going to raise red flags on me, especially all that sterling flatware I bought this past week.   An Arkansas man found a 2.37carat diamond.  Cool.  I want one, I really do.  Please, can I have one.  Okay, I’ve been collecting rocks for years!   The Top Ten cigars of 2006.  I like those big fat ones that are soaked in rum.  Yes, I smoke cigars and no, I no longer turn green when I smoke them, as long as I don’t inhale!

PRIMARIES 2008:  According to Drudge, I’m wrong about Romney.  The AP says he is filing papers for an exploratory committee. I still don’t think he will go beyond it.  I keep saying he is damaged goods.  Once conservatives get word he is trying to ‘con’ them, he’s toast.  McCain continues to cement his SC support.  I think this article from The State is extremely important because it goes a long way toward debunking the CofCC claim of destroying Lindsey's career in the Senate.  The State lists him as the most popular politician in SC.  This is also important for one other reason.  I think there Jim DeMint would like to have a power struggle within the state.  He seems to be constantly taking swipes at Lindsey.
