I have absolutely no hesitation in stating that the Speaker of the House must resign, sooner better than later, and the sooner the better. What he did, literally ignoring (at best) the possibility of an abuse of power by one of the Congressmen under his ‘command’, is absolutely deplorable.  Yes, his resignation is going to hurt us in the upcoming elections, but not to do so is going to seriously harm the credibility of the Republican party.  We’re dealing with the worst kind of abuse of power here – a Congressman waiting until those who should be under his protection waited until they were no longer in a position where they thought they could ask for help.  He would then pounce at a time when they felt they were vulnerable and had no recourse.  Our REPUBLICAN Speaker of the House knew about this.  And he either allowed or ignored it.  For him to remain in power is almost as great as the crimes committed by the offender.  Sins of omission are just as great as sins of commission.  Sorry Mr. Speaker, there is no defense.

 

From Race 4 2008  Something is going on within the SC GOP.  I think we're beginning to see the early signs that maybe Jim DeMint isn't all that happy playing second banana to Lindsey.  During the past few weeks there has been some blogging and a few national articles detailing the power gap that now exists in SC since the death of Carroll Campbell and Strom Thurmond.  What the out of state pundits don't realize is that Campbell was suffering from alzheimers and had been out of it for a few years.  Thurmond was power in name only for quite awhile.  His staffers were the ones who controlled all the power - had done so for years.  It is obvious RINOconservatives would rather lose the South to the Dems than see Lindsey be recognized as the balance of power in SC.  I think some of it has to do with the growing feud between the McCain-Romney camps.  DeMint is squarely behind Romney.  We know where Lindsey stands.  Earlier in the week, the sons of  Strom Thurmond and Carroll Campbell, both with political aspirations of their own, endorsed McCain, throwing even more power into Lindsey's court.  It is also obvious the DeMint faction would like to see Ravenel run against Lindsey, which isn't going to happen.

On the conflict between the West and Islam. 

I was wondering when someone in Europe was going to stand up and give a little tit for tat with the outraged Islamic anti-Pope rhetoric.  Former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar  said Islam MUST apologize to Spain for the conquest and occupation of that nation for nearly eight centuries.  That's telling 'em. 

"...Addressing Friday’s conference in Washington on ‘global threats’, Mr Aznar said: “We are living in a time of war... It’s them or us. The West did not attack Islam, it was they who attacked us. We must face up to an Islam that is ambitious, that is radical and that influences the Muslim world, a fundamentalist Islam that we must confront because we don’t have any choice.“We are constantly under attack and we must defend ourselves,” he said. “I support Ferdinand and Isabella,” he proclaimed, in reference to the medieval Catholic monarchs who drove Muslims out of Spain in 1492..."
