When my grandmother went to South Florida to visit her parents who had recently moved, my grandfather was working for the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce. At the time she was engaged to a rather wealthy ‘heir’ from Charleston, and going was also dating two other men. My grandfather took all three rings she had in her collection and mailed them back to the men in question. She never went back to Charleston.
