View Article  Are There Any Decent Baritones in the World Today?
FRIDAY, MAY 9

NOTE:  I am having problems with Blog Harbor and posting.  I’ve been trying for about 2 hours to get something to “take”.

I’m listening to the Met (Live) do MacBeth, one of my favorites. Carlos Alverez, doing MacBeth sucks. He’s okay, but he’s no Sherrill Milnes.   Jimmy is incredible though.  I saw a performance there, years ago, where I was sitting front row, two seats to the right of Jimmy.  During the ghosts of Scotland past scene, they both became ‘tickled’.  It was so much fun watching them keep from smiling.  Something amusing happened with one of ...   more »

THURSDAY, MAY 8

First up, Glenn Chang is graduating from New Mexico State on Saturday!  Congrats to he and his wonderful parents.  Glenn was telling me one of his classes was using The Pink Flamingo as part of their discussions.  He said everyone in the class but he and one other person were liberals.  It's not what they say about you, but that they are talking about you!

My blogging is “lite” today.  I managed to sleep (a little).  This is getting funny now.  I’m just not quite sure what a person must do to get a decent night’s sleep.  ...   more »

WEDNESDAY, MAY 7

Big Mac is taking Manhattan tonight to raise $7 million!  I HOPE! If he did not have my vote, he would with this!

Nothing is more annoying than either a paper cut or a head cold.  I have the latter.  I had no sleep at all last night.  I know one thing, I've proven that Air-Bourn really works.  I quit using it about a month ago.  This is the first cold /flu I've had in at least 2 years.  I've been using the product religiously during that time.

Sally Vee is pinch hitting tonight with a ...   more »

If I had a child (and thank goodness I DO NOT) I would not allow them to consume hormone treated anything.  I have a tendency to use organic when I think about it, but then we’re just dealing with me.  I’m not all that worried about what I consume at home.  If I’m cooking it, there’s a 90% chance it will not be edible and I’ll end up throwing it out.  I HATE COOKING!

Seriously, when it comes to children, I don’t think I would do anything but organic, and then would want to trace where ...   more »

A PINK FLAMINGO RETRACTION:
Boy Was I Wrong!

From what I have been reading, the vaccine to the HPV virus, that they want to give to girls throughout the country (and I had agreed) is a very dangerous drug. Like I said, I’m sure glad I don’t have kids. I would have messed this one up, big time.

After a comment today, I checked out plant toxicity.  What we have here is a Pigmy Date Palm, which is not toxic.

I have the flu.  Let's just admit it and deal.  This afternoon I went back ...   more »

NEW HOMELAND SECURITY RECOMMENDATIONS
During the deadly flu pandemic the accompanied the Spanish Flu after World War I, actual numbers of those who died are still not known.  My grandfather Froehlich was almost a statistic.  Fortunately, my grandfather had a remarkable relationship with the Lord and a cast iron constitution.  He was in the Army at the time, having recently graduated from the University of Maryland.  Like just about everyone else in the ward, he was simply wheeled outside to die.  He started praying and survived.  According to family stories my grandfather was never sick another day of ...   more »

SATURDAY, MAY 3

Sometimes Miss Beverly Sills is just plain cute.  The worst of it is the little stinker knows she is cute.  Then, there are times (most of the time) she is so darn naughty, it is still cute!  Today has been one of those days.  I pulled her out of the big jade plant 3 times.  The third time she decided to try and bit me.  That did not work.  She’s been running around the condo like a critter on jet fuel.  Okay it’s cute.

FRIDAY, MAY 2

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the good people at the Cat Blogsphere are helping a fellow cat-blogger who was the victim of a tragic fire.  They’ve also done something nice, but I don’t now if I can mention it.  Let’s just say ML proves my theory about Episcopalians being good people!

This Episcopalian spent the afternoon trying to shake down local business owners – for gift certificates for the annual church raffle.  It’s for a good cause, so what the heck.  Fortunately everyone knows the money goes back into the community to various charities so ...   more »

BABIES ARE DYING

It is called Enterovirus 71 (EV71)  So far a few cases have emerged in Malaysia.  There are a number of cases in Singapore and quite a few in China.  One of the big problems is the fact that we have no idea how serious the disease actually is.  We're dealing with China, remember? To date (allegedly) 21 young children have died and around 3,000 others have come down with the intestinal virus known locally as Hand, foot, and mouth disease.  (It is not related to the traditional hoof & mouth disease).  The World Health Organization is worried ...   more »

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30

We’ve had worse days, but this one is in the top five since I’ve lived here.  This morning I was going to put it as the 3rd worst windy day, but I think I will put it at #5.  We are expecting a monster day tomorrow. Fed Ex came by this morning.  I thought the poor woman was going to end up with her arm caught in the door it was blowing so bad.  It was miserable.  Rumsfeld had a rough day.  He went downstairs to the bedroom with me this evening.  Doc trapped him in the ...   more »

I think the title just about says it all.  I think I had 4 hours sleep last night.  Right about now I can barely keep my eyes open.  I’ve been tweaking the blog again.  Got a few helpful hints on how to  make the basted site meter work.  We shall see.

MONDAY, APRIL 28

Everything is fine, now.  I still think they are one of the better blog hosts.  The downtime is so very low.

Site Meter is still not recording hits for The Pink Flamingo.  I’m serious.  According to them, I’ve not had a  hit in months.  I’ve tried everything.  Last night I imbedded the code into the CSS.  Hope that helps. I don’t know what else to try.  It is picking up the other things I’m using it with, but it basically REFUSES to pick up The Pink Flamingo.  You look at it and think there is absolutely no ...   more »

SUNDAY, APRIL 27

There are days when I can find nothing to write about.  This is not one of those days.  I emailed Sally Vee a little while ago and mentioned I just did not know where to start.  I thought about doing another Obama-O-Rama, but I realize I have one more day to go in my self-enforced Obama boycott.  Race 42008 has picked upon the fact that he may do the federal financing for the general election – you read it here a week ago!  But, I’m still on the Obama-O-Rama Wagon.  But, not to worry, we have (drum-roll ...   more »

It wasn’t until a few minutes ago that I understood something.  I know it is shallow, but then -? I was doing something in the kitchen, exhausted, physically and emotionally.  I realized I’ve been through so much 2nd hand heartache and sorrow that I just couldn’t handle any more right now.  I need a break.  And now you know why today is catch as catch can.  Then something dawned on me.  Now I understand the term ‘Man of Sorrows’.  Can you imagine what Christ took upon himself?

The wind never seems to end.  We should have a break in a few days, when, allegedly, around the 1st of May, it will stop.  (Maybe)  Right now everyone is holding their breath with the wind and the fires. NM Fire information Right now things are bad.  There is a fire near Mountainair that could be quite bad.  Until the rains begin on the 4th of July, we all live in a state of unsettled calm.

So naturally nothing works now!  It is taking twice as long to do anything because I must reload the blasted new passwords. Can I just scream now and get it over with?  The really frustrating thing is the fact that I must use Ecto to publish photos for the blog.  Since I changed all the pass-words the blasted Ecto doesn’t want to load on the blasted blog. I’m starting to lose patience.  Ecto doesn’t want to work.  I’m trying to load it with Blogger then switch it over.  You would have thought posting photos would be easier ...   more »

SATURDAY, APRIL 19

There’s not much going on.  Last night I made the mistake and opened the balcony door late in the evening. (It was a bit warm).  A bug flew in and ended up down in my bathroom.  Someone (and we all know which little pink nose kitty) knocked my alcohol scent infuser over – spilling about a cup of flammable liquid into the bathroom carpet.  Good thing it was citrus flavored. The scent was so cloying I couldn’t sleep. Finally realized if I put the towels I used to soak as much up out of the carpet as ...   more »

THURSDAY, APRIL 17

I only have one post today.

We spent yet another afternoon in the ER with my mother.  Her heart rate was good, but her BP was high – for her.  Evidently she had some sort of an attack this AM.  She heads back to Las Cruces to the cardo. on Monday.  Guess that means I cancel my pedicure.

While she was in the ER her sister called.  Mae Raines (aunt of one day HOFer Tim Raines) had a catastrophic stroke this morning.  May went to work for my grandmother when I was 10 days old, and ...   more »

We’ve had another obscenely windy day.  I finally had to go out for diner, and for HE.  Fr. Penn did the service.  I had Altar Guild afterward.  Wednesday night is easy.  We “do dishes” then leave.  There’s none of that setting up for another service, which is good.

My father is now vindicated.  Men are more forgetful than women.

A few minutes ago I called my father and told him I would give him ten bucks if he would take Rumsfeld off my hands this evening.  The little monster somehow managed to climb up the table where I was stashing the garbage (to dump tomorrow) and pulled it down.  Yep, he shredded the bag and scattered things everywhere.   He and Bubbles were so naughty last night I did not get to sleep until about 6:15 this morning!

You will notice the post below this one.  It is totally and completely self-indulgent. The parents' house plans continue - well!  They met with the draftsman this evening.  The only thing changed on the bedroom wing that I designed was removing one set of doors.  That's not bad.  With any luck they will get the blasted thing started this year.

I am only doing two posts today.  I’ve spent much of the evening piddling around and making some changes.  I think I solved the slow loading problems.  All I did was move my TLB badge to the right column, re:  Beth Cleaver’s smart advice a few months ago.  Then I moved the site meter badges.  I discovered my site meter was causing all the problems!  I hate that thing.  I’ve added a registration form, and made the RSS forms easier to find.  If you have been reading TPF this evening, you may have noticed a few color ...   more »

I can’t think of a darn thing to say this evening.  I’m working on some good stuff for the weekend.  Aside from the usual Barack Obama stuff, not much is going on.  The wind is still making me crazy.  We had a few sprinkles of rain this AM.  Further up in Ruidoso IT SNOWED!  Not much else to report.  Oh, be sure to take the test to see what sort of a Republican you are.  Much to my delight, I am an ENTERPRISER!  I think you know where we are going there.
