Tomorrow is the very best day of the year if you live in Lincoln County, New Mexico. The moment the million dollar horse race is over, there is a solid line of tail-lights as the tourists high-tail it back to the low country, i.e. Texas. Now there's nothing wrong with people from Texas. I've come to admire them and to envy them, just a little. But you take a small community where the full time residents number about 10,000 (that's combining two towns) and then cringe as it expands to 40,000 in the summer and it ain't ... more »

AN ILL WIND
(I have an opinion of people who live below sea-level and keep expecting the Feds to bail them out (literally, figuratively, and financially). It is not charitable. If said storm hits where said storm is predicted to hit, some of the rebuilt and being rebuilt areas around New Orleans will probably be flooded. It is politically correct for tax-payers to demand that farmers who live in the low lying areas of the Mississippi flood plain not be allowed to rebuild in a flood prone area. Should the same standards not be applied to the New Orleans region?)... more »

I have a new Blog Critics article about Sarah Palin. I turned the heater on in the Durango this afternoon! That's the first time I've turned it on since last winter. It has been raining on and off all afternoon. My skylight is still leaking. I can't get over how little news there is today. I think this is the first time in ages I have nothing to report or nothing interesting to link. FYI - did you know Cleopatra died on this day in the year 30BC? THE CHAMBERS BOOK OF DAYS Born: Giovanni Battista ... more »

LIBERALS ARE SO TOLERANT There is this myth that liberals and Democrats are diverse, tolerant, and very kind people who are willing to accept different ideas. They love minorities. Liberals are a safe haven for women. They aren't bigots. They love all cultures. Liberals would never do or say anything that would bring grief to another person, group of people, minority, or entity. That would not be enlightened. A myth is a sacred story that, according to the definition, becomes "true" in the eyes of the believer.
Wikipedia defines "Myth" "...In the academic fields of mythology, mythography, or folkloristics, a ... more »

THE NIGHTMARE SCENARIO
It is every family's worst nightmare. Your sibling's getting a divorce. She's been living with with veiled threats and verbal abuse for years. You never knew about it. Now that you do, and the story is out in the open, in many ways, all you have are prayers for safety. The cops can't do anything about it. They don't step in unless there is an actual record of threats. Better if the guy's kills your sister. Then (maybe) they can do something about it then.
It is usually more subtle than that. He gets drunk and blames ... more » Friday, August 29

I did not sleep last night. There was no way I could, after hearing that Palin was the one. I think I stayed up until about 3:30 like a little kid at Christmas. I kept waking up every thirty minutes or so and turning on the news to see if it was official. Finally, about 7AM I gave up and grabbed a quick shower. I did not want to miss anything. Right about now I think I'm a little punchy. Today was the parents' 57th anniversary. We went out for dinner, which is why the summery is ... more »

HOW IT HAPPENED Early last August I received an email from Steve Maloney, who blogs at Campaign2008VictoryA Steve Maloney GOP. Steve wanted to know if I'd heard of Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska. I had not. Steve was working with Adam Brickley of the now "world famous" Draft Sarah Palin for VP. They needed someone to do an article or two and help promote Sarah Palin as VP. Would I be interested. At that time Adam and Steve were THE ONLY people who were promoting Sarah Palin. Don't fall for any of the bandwagon now. They were ... more »

SARAH PALIN - VP?
I just
received an email from Steve Maloney. I'm just going to quote his entire post:"...I'm getting word from Republican operatives in OK and FL that Gov. Sarah Heath Palin's charter plane from Alaska has just landed in Dayton, Ohio. That almost certainly would indicate she is John McCain's choice for V-P. If that is the case, much more about Sarah tomorrow. Sarah Palin is the mother of five, including an infant son, Trig, who was born with Down Syndrome. Her oldest son, Track, is an infantryman headed soon to Iraq or Afghanistan. This story ... more »

I can only handle Democrats for so long. It reminds me of something I once asked Fr. Ron. "Is it okay to hate Democrats?" His response was we could hate them corporately, but must love them individually. I am so sick of Barack Obama and his syncopates at FOX I could scream. I started the day with a headache and am ending it the same way.
Memphis Magazine is going to be naming my sister's new The Cafe Eclectic as one of top four new eateries in Memphis! Have there been some thylacine sightings? Strange dog photographed... more »

IGNORING MLK?
"...."Tonight, Americans witnessed a misleading speech that was so fundamentally at odds with the meager record of Barack Obama. When the temple comes down, the fireworks end, and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm's way. The fact remains: Barack Obama is still not ready to be President."..." I don't know how to judge this thing other than the way I feel about ... more »

SIGN OF THINGS TO COME? There have been rumors of threats and intimidation against Hillary supporters by the Obamans for some months. A few weeks ago we were warned that anyone donating to GOP and conservative sources could be subjected to intense personal scrutiny. In other words, anyone who dares to donate could basically be subjected to blackmail or prosecution - stop contributing OR ELSE! All this reeks of something a bit unsettling. Then, something occurred last night that was a bit chilling if you consider it as organized Democratic intimidation of a writer and the First Amendment. On ... more »

OR AM I JUST PARANOID?
"....The portion of the world most likely to suffer a major hurricane strike from Gustav will be western Cuba. If Gustav makes landfall as a major hurricane somewhere along this stretch of coast, it may bring a storm surge of 10-15 feet to the right of where the eye come ashore..." Are you starting to detect an almost maniacal joy within the media as they discuss the potential of a bull's eye "catastrophic" category 5 storm hitting New Orleans and taking out the GOP convention next week? The Guard is being called out as ... more »

THE GOP'S WYATT & DOC COMBO It must be terribly frustrating for a Democrat in South Carolina who is trying to take on Lindsey Graham. Of course, turn-about is fair play. I spent most of my life watching politics in South Carolina, and the futility of a Republican even bothering to challenge the misc. entrenched Third District Congressman - then Lindsey was elected. It was really quite strange, in a wonderful way. As Lindsey's Oconee County GOP Chairperson I watched as life-long Democrats switched parties to vote for him in a very hard-fought primary. People who never planned to ever ... more »

MORE OF HIS PLANS
Thank God for John McCain! He wants to keep the shuttle infrastructure going past 2010 until wa have a viable replacement. He wants a strong space program! If you have been following the on-going soap opera that is NASA and the elections, for once NASA is part of the argument, in a positive way. Both candidates are trying to out-do one another on who will go where and do what.
Bill Nelson (D-FL) thinks that John McCain will destroy NASA. "... John McCain would “savage” the space program if elected president, Florida Today reported. That’s ... more »

I spent the day working on credit card fraud. I finally completed the paperwork for Capital One. Then, I checked my bank statement. Yep, the same company had hit my fairly new debit card. So I canceled that, then had to do to the bank to get a new one. While there we were involved in a discussion about the Dems and Michelle Obama. I am still trying to figure out how these charges occurred. I was finally able to track one of the front companies, which belonged to some "XXX-Rated Ebony Beauty" site. That's not exactly ... more »

SAY IT AIN'T SO
We are in the middle of a exciting (yawn) Democratic convention where the whole wide world is waiting breathlessly for the Obamassiah to appear at his coronation on Thursday. Unfortunately, there are more important and more pressing things in the world than his Obamassiness. On Thursday the unthinkable will become reality. Limited (no such thing as limited) instant replays for home runs will become the experimental law of the land. This stupidity will last until until someone declares an intervention or it dies a natural death in 2010. The whole idea is to keep tabs of ... more »

MALKIN ATTACKS MCCAIN (AGAIN) (WHAT’Z NEW?) Obnoxious 9/11 Truther Alex Jones got the best of Michelle Malkin. He is a loud, vile individual, who reminds me of a cur dog who needs to have its barker removed. This said, Mz Malkin, in search of a headline and a story, became the story, her little self when Jones and his tawdry bunch of associates recognized her. As much as I dislike Michelle Malkin and thing that some of Jones’ accusations had a ring of truth about them, no one, needs to be treated the way she was. On the other hand, ... more »

AN AMERICAN HERO “…"John Glenn said he was the best natural pilot he ever flew with..” John McCain On Saturday when Joe Biden was thanking Barack Obama for choosing him for his VP nominee, Biden accidentally called Barack Obama “Barack America”. We will be hearing that epitaph sooner than later, as we are dealing with an individual who has an ego that knows no bounds. It is strange what we think of when we hear certain phrases or words, or smell certain odors. (I am not implying anything about odors and the Democrats, but just put two and three together). ... more »

IS MCCAIN ON THE BALLOT? (NOTE: This post contains sarcasm and humor, please respond accordingly and do not take it seriously). The Obama Campaign has released a rather humorous new commercial denegrating John McCain using that song What A Wonderful World This Would Be, best played in Witness. SUNDAY,
AUGUST 24 One of the reasons for the
lite posting this weekend is the fact that Windstream Telecom is
behaving badly again. My DSL service is going on and off,
then being fast, and slow. They say it is my problem and will
probably cost thirty five bucks for an inside service call.
The twit who took the call (outsourced to India) was too quick to own
up to some local outages. I've noticed after I complained
things were working better, but by then it was after 8PM.
I came home this afternoon, after church, to discover that Rumsfeld ... more »

COULD YOU BE ONE? The other day I told my father if I had to be a Democrat I think I would rather shoot myself and put me out of my misery. It must be a terrible thing to be a Democrat and not be allowed to think for oneself. There is such an autocratic hierarchy within the party, if one is not part of the party ‘blue blood’ they are basically chopped liver, consigned to the worker-bee cheep seats of life. One must be common and practice the decisiveness of class warfare. There are two social classes for Democrats, ... more »

COLOR NEW MEXICO RED! The Pink Flamingo has been repeatedly telling you that there is a good chance John McCain is ahead in New Mexico. The latest Mason-Dixon numbers are just in. It's just 45%-41% but I'll take it! This poll, taken last week, dealing with the west ( AZ, NM, CO, NV, UT, WY) has McCain ahead everywhere but Colorado. More recent Colorado numbers are looking good. Joe Monahan thinks Biden is going to help Obama in NM's rural areas, but I'm just not seeing that.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 The above is a shameless ploy to see if all the BS about tags and page ranking through using the right words in titles actually works. I think the whole thing is a crock, which is just about what I think of Obama's choice for VP. Frankly, I can't figure it out, at all. Can you? This evening my friend, Glenn told me he thinks Obama's first choice turned him down and the campaign had to do some scrambling. My mother and I went to the annual antique show today. I found some cabinet photos, enough, I ... more »

DOES IT MATTER?
Are political bloggers accomplishing anything valid or are we simply salving our ego into thinking anyone is actually reading what we write? Are we all that or just pond scum or something in between? Is it possible political bloggers are the internet’s version of The One? We are The Ones for which the Universe has been waiting? I don’t mind admitting I enjoyed reading my numbers, but have realized it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. Or am I going through my cynical phase? Could be both, but then again studies have shown that very ... more »
