An Extremely Long Day
by

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29

My day began at 6AM with a quickie blog post. I had to be at church for Altar Guild by 7AM. I left there at 9AM, rushed home, picked up Miss Beverly Sills, and carted her down to the vet. She’s having her big girl surgery this week, along with an extreme manicure. Then came the post office. I hurried home, emptied trash, then stopped at the bank and Starbucks along the way to the beauty shop where Leroy spent 2 hours doing a color. Somewhere along the way I stopped off at my friend Josie’s. Back ... more »

Why do we need Leap Year? My sister’s Café Eclectic is getting some good reviews! I also forced her to admit MY IDEA of wireless was a very good idea! Rhodes Connect

THE GREAT CAT SOAP OPERA Mommy Cat is pregnant again. She has no shame.
Sorry for the lite posting today. I have an article due before I leave for Tombstone this weekend and need to get the first draft of it to the editor. Yes, it’s about Tombstone. This time though, it is about the Vendetta Posse through the eyes of Endicott Peabody. I’ve also been working on a few other things, and getting ready for 10 days in Tombstone. Making things even more interesting is planning a birthday surprise for my mother when she gets ... more »

Blew My Lenten Vow Today = Due to Democrats
by

on February 26, 2008 10:32PM (MST)
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26
Due to the Democrats I unfortunately used my favorite profanity, a word that deals with a barnyard substance, 4 times.
We’ve had an interesting day. Thanks to the actions of Rumsfeld and Miss Beverly Sills, I think I was able to sleep for 3 hours last night. I had to be up early for an appointment in Alamo with the parents. My mother has been experiencing some serious bleeding in the back of her right eye. She was to meet with a specialist today. The initial tests this AM indicated some macular damage to the left eye. ... more »

The Zen of Flip Flops

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25
We’ve been having a bit of warm weather. Saturday morning birds woke me up – and I have a bird phobia. I think it was nearly 60 that day, but I stayed in all day – the wind was obscene. Yesterday was beautiful. This morning things were warm enough that I experienced the abject joy of wearing my favorite (and beat up) Brighton flip flops all morning! It was a wonderful experience. I must confess the moment it is warm enough (55 degrees in the morning is my cut-off) I wear sandals all summer. Just being able ... more »

Earth to Be Vaporized by Sun

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24
FUN WITH GLOBAL WARMING: I wonder how long it will take to spin this one? Science Daily has the news that the Sun Will Vaporize Earth – in a few billion years. Anyone who studied astronomy 101 knows this. But it is fun to watch the Chicken Littles run around and scream that the sky is falling.
What a boring news day, or maybe it is just me. I spent the day at the Parents’ down in San Patricio. Not much else to tell, I’m afraid.

My Lenten Lessons (thus far)

DO NOT WORRY
I have learned to live by two specific things The Sermon on the Mount and The Praise Verses from Thessalonians. I believe so strongly
Rejoice always Pray without ceasing In everything give thanks
that I’ve even written a book about it, along with all the praise verses in the Bible.
In fact, I wrote the book during Lent 2000. Earlier that year I went through a personal and romantic disaster. My (almost) fiancee basically trashed me to the point where there was nothing left of my self esteem or of the real me. While I now ... more »

PreSeason Consensus – Cubbies All the Way?
by

on February 20, 2008 10:45PM (MST)
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20 Yea, and I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’ll gladly sell at rock bottom prices! Yes, on paper, the Cubbies seem to have the best team, so far. Now, what is going to happen?
From what I gather the great missile shot was a complete success. This is so exciting. Ronald Reagan was right about that one. Star Wars works! Space.Com has a test on which cosmic duo would you trust to shoot down that satellite. No contest – Captain James T. Kirk and the USS Enterprise NCC-1701!

THURSDAY THIRTEEN The Pink Flamingo's 62nd Edition Thursday Thirteen Thirteen Misc. Commercials
I never link my TT's to Linkfest Heaven Deluxe, but I am doing so today. Most of the political junkies there will understand when they see two of the commercials. My mother has been heard saying (many times) that often the commercials are better than the television programs. Sometimes they are. Below you will find thirteen commercials (a couple trailers) that I find either funny, or are some of my favorites. You are also going to find a Ronald Reagan commercial that would make you wonder...! The first ... more »

The Café Eclectic web site is now up and running. Cathy reports that she will start serving breakfast on Monday morning! You might want to surf through the site and find the photos they’ve taken over the two long years it has taken getting the blasted building into shape. They basically gutted the entire building, then renovated it. I’ve been there and done that. It isn’t easy. My sister has put her whole life into this. A few prayers might be nice. My niece, Rachel, did the web site. Cathy said they are going to be serving ... more »

Attack of the Calico Kitten
by

on February 17, 2008 11:51PM (MST)
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17 Last night Miss Beverly Sills found herself on the opposite end of the bedroom door. She and Rumsfeld have become total buddies, partners in total and complete crime. Last night they were playing pounce the kitten. Unfortunately they were playing pounce the kitten, or rather pounce the mommy, around 4AM, on my bed, on top of me. Things gradually reached the point where Miss Beverly Sills, “Bubbles” jumped from the foot of the bed to the other end, landing on my head, claws in full scratch mode. Fortunately I’d been afraid something like that might happen, so ... more »

Café Eclectic in Memphis Is Not Open Yet

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16
My sister, Cathy, is the owner of Cafe Eclectic. Her business isn’t even open, and she’s already getting rave reviews there in Memphis! Now, if you are a reader of this blog and live in Memphis, she’s struggling to get things ready. She and Mary, the Executive Chef, are thrilled by all the attention, but are now extremely nervous because of all it. They hope they can live up to all the expectations. It has been quite an adventure. Maybe you can pry some of the story out of her. I really ought to turn it ... more »

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15
Miss Beverly Sills went to the vet this evening for a manicure. Once again Dr. Franklin clipped back her little finger-nails. Last night, when she used my tushie as a scratching post while I was on the phone was the last straw. She is still having problems with her ears. He now thinks she may have some hearing loss.
Speaking of loss, I wondered why she was not going back into the guest room this evening. About thirty minutes ago I discovered that she’d finally pulled the canopy out of the ceiling over the bed. ... more »

My Grandparents Were Married in 1927 – Valentine’s Day

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Spring Training Starts Today!
When my grandmother went to South Florida to visit her parents who had recently moved, my grandfather was working for the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce. At the time she was engaged to a rather wealthy ‘heir’ from Charleston, and going was also dating two other men. My grandfather took all three rings she had in her collection and mailed them back to the men in question. She never went back to Charleston. They were married a month or so later in Miami, and were together nearly 65 years. She was buried on ... more »

BONDS TESTED POSITIVE - 2001

There
is a God and He is a baseball fan!
I'm happy! My throat is sore from screaming and my
hands hurt from clapping. I've not yelled and screamed this
much since the spring of 1994 when I heard on the news that SC's 3rd
District Congressman Butler Derrick was retiring. THIS IS
BIGGER! In the 2001 Barry Bonds allegedly hit 73 home runs.
The only problem is that year he tested positive for steroids it has
just been revealed.
Bonds' home-run record is based
on a sham. He cheated. If nothing less, he needs ... more »

life in Iraq and his two dogs. (warning, tear

KINDNESS COUNTS
Jesus said, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father." TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12
Spring Training Starts Thursday!
I am going to post early this evening. Miss Beverly Stills was sleeping all evening. She woke up for a little snack but looks like she’s going back to sleep. I’ve reached the point with her that she’s like a two year old (she is the kitten equivalent of). I must keep things to entertain her. Last evening she was so off the wall I had to give her a time-out and put her in the guest room for about thirty minutes. I think she was so busy this afternoon with Rumsfeld, ... more »

WE MUST ALL FORGIVE
This is a funny time of year for me. From about now until the middle of March is when the ‘bad stuff’ happens in my family. During the past three years I’ve lost my beloved Clancy (miniature poodle) Siggy, Brunhilda, GeorgieW, and years ago, my grandparents. Also three years ago starting around the first of March my mother started having severe heart problems that lead to her heart stopping twice. For the next 8 weeks or so I think my family walks on egg-shells.
I think I mention this because we’ve come full cycle in ... more »

Unfortunately there is only one main posting for today. I spent about 5 hours working with my parents on their house plans. If you have been following the ongoing melodrama of the new house, this is BIG NEW. We have a plan! (oye) My head hurts. They decided to add on to the existing sow’s ear. By doing so, they can have the 7000 square foot job they had in South Carolina and only pop for a two wing addition of about 3700 square feet or so. We took a tape- ... more »
