I want to set the record straight on a few things. First, I am conservative. I am not “A Conservative”. I am conservative. My conservative values have NEVER changed – except for my views on capital punishment. I was for it, but then when I really began thinking about the pro-life implications, I cannot support it. I do not believe in taking a person’s life – no matter who. My only exception is for treason and then just shoot ‘em where they stand. This is the only thing about my conservative views that has changed. I want ... more»
Twenty-three years ago last night I was in Atlanta slobbering over Sherrill Milnes as he did Simon Boccanegra with the Met. They ended their annual tours a few years later, but I sure did hear some great music while they were in town. My mother and I would stay at the Colony Square Hotel, get a suite. My aunt would fly up from Palm Beach and my mother's best friend would also drive in for the week. We would do 6 nights of intensive opera, good stuff, too. The thing I remember about that specific week was ... more»
NOTE: I am having problems with Blog Harbor and posting. I’ve been trying for about 2 hours to get something to “take”. I’m listening to the Met (Live) do MacBeth, one of my favorites. Carlos Alverez, doing MacBeth sucks. He’s okay, but he’s no Sherrill Milnes. Jimmy is incredible though. I saw a performance there, years ago, where I was sitting front row, two seats to the right of Jimmy. During the ghosts of Scotland past scene, they both became ‘tickled’. It was so much fun watching them keep from smiling. Something amusing happened with one of ... more»
I have a real problem here. I am noticing a growing trend within conservative (extreme, not Republican) blog ranks to classify La Raza as racist. Along with that, there seems to be this under tone that maybe Hispanics are less than acceptable. Or, if they are, we’re talking “OUR” Hispanics and the other (UPPITY) Hispanics. Let’s face some very nasty facts here. The same individuals who fought against the Civil Rights reforms and integration in the Sixties are the very ones helping to promote hard-line immigration reform. Does ... more»
First up, Glenn Chang is graduating from New Mexico State on Saturday! Congrats to he and his wonderful parents. Glenn was telling me one of his classes was using The Pink Flamingo as part of their discussions. He said everyone in the class but he and one other person were liberals. It's not what they say about you, but that they are talking about you!
My blogging is “lite” today. I managed to sleep (a little). This is getting funny now. I’m just not quite sure what a person must do to get a decent night’s sleep. ... more»
Nothing is more annoying than either a paper cut or a head cold. I have the latter. I had no sleep at all last night. I know one thing, I've proven that Air-Bourn really works. I quit using it about a month ago. This is the first cold /flu I've had in at least 2 years. I've been using the product religiously during that time.
Sally Vee is pinch hitting tonight with a ... more»
I can hardly keep my eyes open this evening. I've had so many Sudafed and so much Claritan I am ready to fall asleep - which is probably what I need. Instead I spent the day running errands. I'm so pooped I can't even go into what I did today! Did you hear the one about A-Rod passing out when his daughter was born? Gavin Floyd almost gets a no-hitter this evening.
A PINK FLAMINGO RETRACTION: Boy Was I Wrong! From what I have been reading, the vaccine to the HPV virus, that they want to give to girls throughout the country (and I had agreed) is a very dangerous drug. Like I said, I’m sure glad I don’t have kids. I would have messed this one up, big time.
After a comment today, I checked out plant toxicity. What we have here is a Pigmy Date Palm, which is not toxic.
I have the flu. Let's just admit it and deal. This afternoon I went back ... more»
During the deadly flu pandemic the accompanied the Spanish Flu after World War I, actual numbers of those who died are still not known. My grandfather Froehlich was almost a statistic. Fortunately, my grandfather had a remarkable relationship with the Lord and a cast iron constitution. He was in the Army at the time, having recently graduated from the University of Maryland. Like just about everyone else in the ward, he was simply wheeled outside to die. He started praying and survived. According to family stories my grandfather was never sick another day of ... more»
Unfortunately, I feel an opera binge coming. Deal with it. I have been in a state of denial for years. It's back. My mother will be very happy. I NEED A TOSCA FIX!
Actually I think I'm just sick and tired. I've been working on several posts this afternoon. During the process something that is halfway between Ebola and The Plague has hit, getting worse as the evening progresses. I'm sitting here shivering and shaking, trying to stay awake. Since about 3PM I've been dealing with the most annoying sore ... more»
Sometimes Miss Beverly Sills is just plain cute. The worst of it is the little stinker knows she is cute. Then, there are times (most of the time) she is so darn naughty, it is still cute! Today has been one of those days. I pulled her out of the big jade plant 3 times. The third time she decided to try and bit me. That did not work. She’s been running around the condo like a critter on jet fuel. Okay it’s cute. Another only in New Mexico: marauding elk? THE CHAMBERS BOOK OF DAYS
As I mentioned in an earlier post, the good people at the Cat Blogsphere are helping a fellow cat-blogger who was the victim of a tragic fire. They’ve also done something nice, but I don’t now if I can mention it. Let’s just say ML proves my theory about Episcopalians being good people!
This Episcopalian spent the afternoon trying to shake down local business owners – for gift certificates for the annual church raffle. It’s for a good cause, so what the heck. Fortunately everyone knows the money goes back into the community to various charities so ... more»
My friend Deb send an email to me yesterday, with a message for my friend Chris and her family. It is so beautiful I want to share it with you.
A little background. My friend is a living testament to Christ's love and the fact that HE IS in the miracle business. She shouldn't even be alive, let alone walking. Maybe 13 or so years ago Deb, a letter carrier, was on the job, going through the big intersection in Seneca, SC between Highway 59 and the 123 Bypass. Someone ran the light, hitting her dead to ... more»
It was bound to happen. I’ve been avoiding the subject for about 3 years, ignoring my genealogy addiction, completely on the wagon. Last night the worst possible thing happened. I discovered I could tinker into ancestry.com and recreate my long-lost charts online and not worry about losing them every time I have a crash. I am ashamed to say I went out on a binge last night. I stayed up until 5AM (yep, all night) working on the family tree. I now have recovered something like 99% of the files I lost ages ago. I need to ... more»
THURSDAY THIRTEEN The Pink Flamingo’s 70th Edition Thursday Thirteen Thirteen Most Excellent "Cop" Themes
Okay, I admit it. I like cop shows. Unfortunately, with the exception of the line-up on USA on Friday night, I really don't think there's a "traditional" cop show on network. The 1980's were the best of times. Somewhere they did a list of the greatest cop shows ever. Believe it or not, my favorite one was declared the very best cop show ever. I've saved it for last.
WHY SHOULD I BE FORCED TO ATONE FOR THE SINS OF MY ANCESTORS?
Today, Dave at Oricus links to a commentary at Fire Dog Lake about a Peggy Noonan column. I have long ago said the venerable Ms Noonan is not firing on all thrusters. I think this time she has basically driven over a cliff. On April 28 at the WSJ Noonan wrote:
“…Main thought. Hillary Clinton is not Barack Obama's problem. America is Mr. Obama's problem. He has been tagged as a snooty lefty, as the glamorous, ambivalent candidate from Men's Vogue, the candidate who loves America ... more»
I think the title just about says it all. I think I had 4 hours sleep last night. Right about now I can barely keep my eyes open. I’ve been tweaking the blog again. Got a few helpful hints on how to make the basted site meter work. We shall see.
Everything is fine, now. I still think they are one of the better blog hosts. The downtime is so very low.
Site Meter is still not recording hits for The Pink Flamingo. I’m serious. According to them, I’ve not had a hit in months. I’ve tried everything. Last night I imbedded the code into the CSS. Hope that helps. I don’t know what else to try. It is picking up the other things I’m using it with, but it basically REFUSES to pick up The Pink Flamingo. You look at it and think there is absolutely no ... more»
You will find my four part Cochise County immigration piece below. Have fun reading it. I have a feeling it could be part of a new book. I did some copy/paste from a couple of my books: TRAVESTY and A CHURCH FOR HELLDORADO. Please note that all the passages I used in the books are have a copyright on them and cannot be used without my permission.
While I was working on the article this afternoon, I had one of those Eureka Moments! After 15 years of stalking Wyatt Earp, I looked at his life and ... more»
Last weekend some serious charges were leveled at The Pink Flamingo, questioning methods and sources. Several days ago Harold Hutchinson at Called As Seen detailed some of the problems. I was accused by someone who alleges to be from “the border” of not knowing what I’m talking about – of lying.
Years ago, when my sister and I were in high school, a women from our church and her husband confronted my mother, making some off the wall accusations about my sister and I. Our mother never said anything, but went the high school ... more»
Everyone and their pack mule knew the vast desert along the Mexican border in what was then Pima County, A. T. (Arizona Territory) was literally ‘dripping’ with rich mineral deposits. The problem was the Apache. They were angry. They were fierce, and they were often fatal. Several ill-fated expeditions to Goose Flats, where everyone knew there was bonanza in silver, always ended in disaster. In 1879 Ed Schieffelin, a prospector who was working as an army scout out of Fort Huachuca (the same one) announced he was going to head over to the Goose Flats area ... more»
Everyone wanted a piece of the action. They wanted their ‘fair share’. They wanted the money. Because the Apache were “under control” it was easier for Mexican merchants to cross the border along specific trade routes that had been established a thousand years pervious (and are still in use today). Tombstone had the money. They could afford things. They paid big money for things, at highly inflated rates. The Mexican traders would make their way back into Sonora, rich, their pockets full of Tombstone gold.

FROM: A CHURCH FOR HELLDORADO P. 13, 14 49The Gunfight at the OK Corral occurred on October 26, 1881. To make a very long “and involved story as short as possible is to gloss over a hundred salient facts. The bottom line is Wyatt Earp and his brothers had been threatened by misc. Cowboys at misc. times during the previous year. Things came to a head the night of the 25th, when Ike and Frank McLaury rode into town and began drinking. Ike became drunk. He threatened the Earps. Doc Holliday heard him ... more»
