View Article  Phillies Win Bodes Well for McCain!
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30

There is something I'd not paid a bit of attention too until listening to Michael Medved this afternoon.  The last time the Phillies won the World Series, a few days later Ronald Reagan was elected President! I am NOT a Phillies fan.  In fact, they rank right down there at the bottom of my list with the Cards and Giants.  But, if Medved says this, then I'll run with it.  Yea, it's that time of the election cycle.

If you are a baseball fan, you need to catch the first few minutes of his show.  He discribed ...   more »

Today someone asked how my visit was with the relatives in Denver.  I replied that we went shopping, but I bought no shoes. Leroy looked askew.  I explained to him that in my family, a visit or a reunion takes place at the local shopping mall or visiting new stores. What can I say, I come from a long line of shoppers!

PROTECTING SCIENCE

I don't mind admitting when John McCain said that he was planning a spending freeze - across the board - I gulped air.  NASA and science are always the first things that get cut when Washington decides to count pennies.  The campaign today said neither would be cut. (Sigh of relief).
"...Under McCain, funding also would increase for NASA and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Brannon said. After noting the several years of essentially flat funding that have passed since the Clinton and Bush administrations, along with Congress, completed a project to double the NIH budget ...   more »

I picked Rumsfeld up at the kennel today.  He could have cared less, he was having such great fun!  I managed to get some sleep for a change.  Sure felt good!

Today is the 40th anniversary of Apollo 7.  Seems like the crew came down with "head colds" and rebelled against mission control.  Ig tives new meaning to "Houston, we have a problem!"

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8

Laura Bush has instructed the White House be turned into the "Pink" House during October.  Unfortunately it is just for the evening, with pink lighting, but it sure looks good.  I can't wait for Sarah Palin to get there.

I'm stuck in a hotel with sorry television, and it is Wednesday night.  Only thing to do is watch a movie.  We're just reaching the point where the grizzled (but still incredibly sexy archaeologist) picks up his Fedora at the beginning of the movie. And people wonder why I'm such an archaeology buff.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM
While so many other things have been going on here in the country, the problems of NASA have been swept under the rug.  I've always tried to be honest when it comes to the Bush Administration, promising to complain about things when I thought it was necessary.  Right now, I'm complaining.  Something is going on within the Administration, the OMB, and NASA in general.  And  -  it isn't good.  If we aren't careful, and if Barack Obama is elected, say good-by to NASA (and our future). The very real problem is that the Bush ...   more »

TYPICAL DEMOCRAT BEHAVIOR
I've been warning you that the greatest danger of a Barack Obama Presidency would be to NASA and our future in space.  Space Politics proves my point.
"...Earlier this week Sen. Russell Feingold (D-WI) introduced S.3457, the “Support for Democracy and Human Rights in Ethiopia Act of 2008″. The legislation outlines some of the challenges democracy and human rights are facing in Ethiopia, despite some recent positive progress, and asks the president to “support the implementation of democracy and governance institutions and organizations in Ethiopia” through a number of measures, ranging from unspecified programs to protect human ...   more »

(or) A DEATH WATCH FOR NASA

Just like everything else he does, Barack Obama is sending mixed signals when it comes to his plans for NASA.  At first he basically said that he would not be funding the next generation shuttle program.  Then he signaled he would not push for an extension of the current shuttle program.  He has flipped, then flopped on his flip.  The bottom line here is I don't think he can be trusted to support the advancement of space exploration.  Barack Obama is all about welfare and the give away.  He wants to make NASA internationa...   more »

SPACE TO GROW
The other day, over at Race42008, there was a wonderful little thread about John McCain and Space Exploration.  The bottom line - he's for it!  He wants to send a human - American human - (notice no gender bias) to Mars!  So do I!  Let's just say, the man gets it.  He knows how important a strong American presence in space is.  He understands that we need to keep the current shuttle program running until we have a viable replacement.  To that effect, he has petitioned the White House to keep the program going beyond its ...   more »

Thank God for John McCain!  He wants to keep the shuttle infrastructure going past 2010 until wa have a viable replacement. He wants a strong space program!  If you have been following the on-going soap opera that is NASA and the elections, for once NASA is part of the argument, in a positive way.  Both candidates are trying to out-do one another on who will go where and do what.

AN AMERICAN HERO
“…"John Glenn said he was the best natural pilot he ever flew with..”  John McCain

On Saturday when Joe Biden was thanking Barack Obama for choosing him for his VP nominee, Biden accidentally called Barack Obama “Barack America”.  We will be hearing that epitaph sooner than later, as we are dealing with an individual who has an ego that knows no bounds. It is strange what we think of when we hear certain phrases or words, or smell certain odors.  (I am not implying anything about odors and the Democrats, but just put two and three together). ...   more »

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13
You can probably tell by my previous post, I'm not all that happy with Democrats right now, simply because it is my believe, from what I can tell, Barack Obama is going to basically destroy our future by gutting NASA for more handouts and pandering.  He has already said he is going to postpone our second generation shuttle for several years if not indefinately.  I hope his dimwit supporters realize if we don't have a way to get to the ISS (if this war in Georgia continues) there's no way we can even service our satellites.  I ...   more »

ARTHUR C. CLARK WAS RIGHT

Like most visionaries, Arthur C. Clark was almost always right.  This time is no exception.  What the heck is going to happen now that we have put all our space eggs in one basket? Like his sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, when the US dumped it's space program, we could be in deep you know what.  Unfortunately, unlike Clark's vision, we don't face much of a happy ending unless John McCain is elected.  I think we cam be fairly sure Barack Obama will dump most of NASA.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 9

I've been hearing rumblings about NASA's Ares I.  American Space has been following the problems with NASA and our return to the moon. There are some serious problems with the Ares I. From the Wright Stuff at the Orlando Sentinel, comes word that the astronaut office isn't all that happy about it.  I was beginning to wonder about this after the latest tests.  Having followed NASA and the space program for most of my life, and having been (once upon a time) one of those dirty lobbyists, I know when you read this sort of thing, that, ...   more »

FOR OR AGAINST?

UPDATED:  The blog, Space Politics has breaking news about the possibility of a coming Dem platform fight over NASA.
"...Is there a “potential fracture in the Democratic party over space”? That’s the claim of a piece published last week by the newspaper chain Examiner.com by Patricia Phillips, a “former NASA information officer”. One one side, she claims, are people like Sen. Bill Nelson, who she perceives as strong supporters of NASA, and on the other presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, “who’s widely regarded as anti-space, despite this weeks’s Google spin.” (Google spin?) LIFE ON MARS?  Is an announcement from the White House about the potential for life on Mars in the works? We began the game of Musical Kittens this morning around 5:30AM.  I caught Rumsfeld trying to "play" with the sand colored 'red'.  I picked her up and snuggled her.  She's a baby doll, but rather placid.  The other little red tabby is feisty, and did a lot of spitting at me when I picked her up.  Mommy Cat wanted them in the living room.  I locked Rumsfeld in the bedroom and helped Mommy Cat carry the babies up to the living room.  She went down for the little mottled calico while I was photographing the other two.  ...   more »

OR A BIG STEP BACKWARD?

In many ways the summer of 1969 was the most magical in my life.  It changed my life, or rather formed the foundation for all that I am.  It had nothing to do with sex, drugs, or rock and roll.  It wasn’t about Woodstock, even though my parents and grandparents were actually in said town antiquing the weekend there-of.  It was about scientific and engineering feats that captured our imagination.  As a nation we held our heads high.  My girlish fancies were captured by a ‘fairy tale’ young prince who was finally allowed to meet ...   more »
