View Article  My Niece is 23 Today
SATURDAY, MAY 10

Twenty-three years ago last night I was in Atlanta slobbering over Sherrill Milnes as he did Simon Boccanegra with the Met.  They ended their annual tours a few years later, but I sure did hear some great music while they were in town.  My mother and I would stay at the Colony Square Hotel, get a suite.  My aunt would fly up from Palm Beach and my mother's best friend would also drive in for the week.  We would do 6 nights of intensive opera, good stuff, too. The thing I remember about that specific week was ...   more »

FRIDAY, MAY 9

NOTE:  I am having problems with Blog Harbor and posting.  I’ve been trying for about 2 hours to get something to “take”.

I’m listening to the Met (Live) do MacBeth, one of my favorites. Carlos Alverez, doing MacBeth sucks. He’s okay, but he’s no Sherrill Milnes.   Jimmy is incredible though.  I saw a performance there, years ago, where I was sitting front row, two seats to the right of Jimmy.  During the ghosts of Scotland past scene, they both became ‘tickled’.  It was so much fun watching them keep from smiling.  Something amusing happened with one of ...   more »

MONDAY, APRIL 28

Everything is fine, now.  I still think they are one of the better blog hosts.  The downtime is so very low.

Site Meter is still not recording hits for The Pink Flamingo.  I’m serious.  According to them, I’ve not had a  hit in months.  I’ve tried everything.  Last night I imbedded the code into the CSS.  Hope that helps. I don’t know what else to try.  It is picking up the other things I’m using it with, but it basically REFUSES to pick up The Pink Flamingo.  You look at it and think there is absolutely no ...   more »

FRIDAY, APRIL 11

I am only doing two posts today.  I’ve spent much of the evening piddling around and making some changes.  I think I solved the slow loading problems.  All I did was move my TLB badge to the right column, re:  Beth Cleaver’s smart advice a few months ago.  Then I moved the site meter badges.  I discovered my site meter was causing all the problems!  I hate that thing.  I’ve added a registration form, and made the RSS forms easier to find.  If you have been reading TPF this evening, you may have noticed a few color ...   more »

MONDAY, MARCH 31

It wasn’t until a few minutes ago that I noticed there is a theme for the day:  Heroes.  This evening I learned that Michael Monsoor will be the 5th post 9/11 Medal of Honor.  Celebrating a Royal Marine L/Cpl Croucher – HERO!  Have you read this story?

AND HE DON'T MONKEY AROUND!
I have a collection of pieces about Barack Obama today.  I think I have two points about him.  First, he is nothing more than your average crooked, corrupt, Chicago ward-healer politician with a good publicist.  The man is corrupt.  He is smoke and mirrors.  If investigations into his fund-raising ever get started, the man is highly vulnerable.

Next, breath a little easier.  Barack Obama is not a cult.  He’s a rock star. It is a generational thing – but it has nothing to do with politics.

What people don’t realize is that the “Greatest Generation” ...   more »
