''It is unlikely that the Reagan era will prove to be the historic change in the direction of America that we have sought.'' Edwin J. Feulner Jr., president of the Heritage Foundation,1985.
John McCain and George W. Bush should be honored to be in such august company as Ronald Reagan. Why? While Reagan was President, contrary to the lies that are being told today by Richard Viguerie and World Net Daily, Viguerie and fellow conservative leaders Howard Phillips and Paul Weyrich did their very best to undermine and bully him. Now though, they protray themselves as ... more»
This evening after a long cooking session (nothing caught on fire or exploded, FYI) I sat down to start working on a couple of articles about Sarah Palin. My inbox was being accosted by requests for me to remove blogs from the I Vote the Elephant blogroll, to protest yours truly. First things first, I don't know what is the big deal about any blogroll. I know the requests were intended to insult, which is fine. To each their own. But to me a blog roll is no big deal. The world does not begin or end ... more»
I have been ranting and raving about conservatives and the GOP for ages. Anyone can rant and rave. But – we need reason and plansof action. I am not about to suggest a plan of action. That is for wiser minds than my own. I can, though come up with some fairly educated observations. I don’t think there is much more anyone can do. We all know the GOP is either going to sink or swim with John McCain. He is going to drag them kicking or screaming into the 21st Century, ... more»
Something has happened today and I’m not quite sure how to handle it. Evidently I’ve stepped on a few toes with what I’ve said about conservatives these past few days. If you will notice the right column of the Pink Flamingo you will notice it is much “thinner”. I’ve been kicked off a few blog-rolls this morning. It has hurt my feelings. I guess I thought it was acceptable to tell the truth. It makes me feel bad because I’ve always held this specific individual up as an example of what an honorable independent conservative is. I ... more»
This is yet another in the series I am doing on how non Republican conservatives are destroying the GOP. The past part looked at the sources of the problem. Today we examine how pervasive the problem is. This is another of those pieces where I've been working on for several weeks.
The most important lesson we can take to the ballot box this political season is the fact that there is an energized conservative movement that is completely independent of the GOP. They are made up of several factions I will detail below. ... more»
I am known as a cynical, conservative "hating" witch with a "B". It is true, I no longer trust anything with a "conservative brand". I am am angry with these people for having infiltrated and destroyed much of my beloved GOP. I am angry with good, decent conservative Republicans for falling for their line of BS. Unfortunately there is a very nasty little bottom line here. Good, decent conservatives have been manipulated, co-opted, and some just downright purchased by one of two or both manipulators and puppetmasters. The first is Sun Myung Moon. When you start ... more»
Yesterday evening I finally realized one of the problems bothering me when it comes to today’s non-Republican conservatives. How about a quote from Ann Coulter:
“…And I think what happened today demonstrates that the movement conservatives, or the radical right wing as we're being called, is the one with the power in this relationship, the power in the country. That is to say, as I have been arguing since the Roberts nomination, yes, it would be fine if Bush nominated a wonderful, qualified conservative like Janice Rogers Brown. Even if she's defeated, that is a victory for ... more»
Quin Hillyer wrote one of the nastiest hit pieces I’ve seen to date against Lindsey. Naturally he is channeling Michelle Malkin who has this pathological hatred of Lindsey. I think it’s because she dislikes anything Hispanic and Lindsey is not exactly a bigot, and sorta implied that she and her precious little friends are. I guess since she is promoting Buddy Witherspoon, we all know who is handling her leash – the John Tanton crowed. She’s also part of what I call the Dump Lindsey Movement. It’s all part of certain non-Republican ... more»
John McCain's historic speech delivered at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, in Columbus, OH, today at 10:00 a.m. EDT
"Thank you. The hectic but repetitive routine of presidential campaigns often seems to consist entirely of back and forth charges between candidates, punctuated by photo ops, debates and the occasional policy speech, followed by another barrage of accusations and counter accusations, formulated into the soundbites preferred by cable news producers. It is a little hypocritical for candidates or reporters to criticize these deficiencies. They are our creation. Campaigns and the media collaborated as architects of the ... more»
For months I've been telling you that there are certain conservatives who are no more Republican than Barack Obama is. Mark Levin just proved me correct. This is the WORST piece of you know what I've ever heard. This needs to end - now. Right now I am absolutely furious. I don't know when I have been so angry. We are dealing with people who are so warped that they do not comprehend they have destroyed the "brand" they once embraced. Maybe Mark Levin needs to go back and read the Contract with America. Not once in ... more»
Once again a Republican wannabe has been sent packing, tail between his legs. There are several reasons for this. Unlike this gloom and doom blame everything on GWB post from Race 42008, President Bush IS NOT the problem! We all know all the little cowardly conservatives who dance around the anti-immigration bonfire singing the sky is falling, and deport 'em all are the ones who are to blame. They sound more like Barack Obama who doesn't have the intellectual capacity or the maturity to shoulder the blame himself. They are ... more»
IS HE JUST PLAIN SMART? (or) ARE CONSERVATIVES BETRAYING MCCAIN?
John McCain betrayed conservatives yesterday when he caved to the dastardly theology of "Global Warming". Or did he? He addressed the problems of global climate change, which even the most conservative of thinkers acknowledges is occurring. Anyone who follows science news knows something is happening out there. Frankly, I go with the theory that humans aren't important enough in the great scheme of things to completely disrupt the planet unless they blow it up with a bunch of nukes. I don't see a Death Star anywhere, so until the Grand ... more»
Novak has a Townhall piece today that is basically humiliating in nature for the GOP. Nancy Pelosi has run rough-shod over them for nearly 2 years and they’ve basically surrendered. Flap is covering Newt Gingrich’s cry in the darkness.
“…Nine Acts of Real Change That Could Restore the GOP Brand
Here are nine acts of real change that would begin to rebuild the American people's confidence that Republicans share their values, understand their worries, and are prepared to act instead of just talk. The Republicans in Congress could get a start on all nine ... more»
You need to catch Carl Cameron’s interview with “Bud” Day. Day was John McCain’s roommate while both were imprisoned during those horrible days in of the Vietnam War. The interview leaves you in tears.
“…“I took one look at him and my brain instantly said they dropped this guy off on me to claim that we let him die. He was just emaciated, very, very skinny, in this awful body cast.”
The colonel and John McCain were cell-mates in that tiny cell for two of their more than 5 yrs of torture ... more»
Rubin Navarrette has a PJ Media piece about the Mexican flag. There is a double standard. Anything Mexican is bad – evil, evidently.
“…The point is, a lot of Americans look at anyone who waves a Mexican flag as secretly planning to take over the Southwest and hand it to Mexico. But they don’t suggest that anyone waving the Israeli flag - or the Irish flag, or the Italian flag or whatever - has something similar up his sleeve. In those cases, most people are likely to think that the display is harmless and that all ... more»
There was something of a small feeding frenzy yesterday, lost in all the election news, about John McCain, his ideas about judges, and the extreme conservative reaction to it. Over the next few days I am going to be concentrating on the problems the GOP is facing with conservatives. It isn't that "conservative" is the problem. The problem is the fact that there is an entire breed of conservative that is not GOP and basically is wishing for the demise of the GOP. It is time we separate the conservatives from the Republicans and the honorable ... more»
I want to tell you about a story I heard today. I am not telling who told it to me. The man is Hispanic. His family has been in New Mexico since the Conquistadors. THEY ARE REPUBLICAN. They have served in the military. They vote. They go to church, have jobs, and contribute to society. Unfortunately, my friend’s sister cannot find her birth certificate. She has lost her baptismal certificate. The state of New Mexico declares she was never born. She has a Social Security # and is receiving it. She has her ... more»
MICHELLE HATES MCCAIN (or is it anything Hispanic)
Does this offend you? If it does, I suggest you join your little friends at Stormfront, or go flush some of your hard earned money down the coffers of any one of the minutemen groups. I also suggest you sit back, and breathe. There....in, out. Now sneeze. (wait, that's me). Think back on all the tales you remember - of Ronald Reagan's campaign. Think about all the GOP POTUS campaigns since then - and you might discover (if yo are willing to look) that EVERY Republican nominee for President of the ... more»
I think there is this false perception that I do not like conservatives, and have something against them. In a way that is true. I am conservative. The only change I’ve been through in about 20 years of political evolution is the fact that I am now against the death penalty simply because I am so staunchly pro-life. It is rather ludicrous to be against abortion, but yet want to put criminals to death. It just doesn’t work. Other than that, I am as conservative (maybe a little more) as I was when Reagan was ... more»
I keep telling you there are many conservatives who are not Republican. These are the individuals who have been doing all the agitating – and we’re not talking Ron Paul Bots. There is a division in the conservative ranks between libertarians, Constitution, and the new conservative party. The problem is these are the yahoos who basically cost the GOP the majority in the House and Senate in 2006. If we aren't careful and marginalize them, this will happen, once again, and could cost John McCain the election. They ... more»
