DO NOT WORRY

I have learned to live by two specific things The Sermon on the Mount and The Praise Verses from Thessalonians.  I believe so strongly

Rejoice always
Pray without ceasing
In everything give thanks

that I’ve even written a book about it, along with all the praise verses in the Bible.

In fact, I wrote the book during Lent 2000. Earlier that year I went through a personal and romantic disaster.  My (almost) fiancee basically trashed me to the point where there was nothing left of my self esteem or of the real me.  While I now ...   more »

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17
Last night Miss Beverly Sills found herself on the opposite end of the bedroom door.  She and Rumsfeld have become total buddies, partners in total and complete crime.  Last night they were playing pounce the kitten.  Unfortunately they were playing pounce the kitten, or rather pounce the mommy, around 4AM, on my bed, on top of me.  Things gradually reached the point where Miss Beverly Sills, “Bubbles” jumped from the foot of the bed to the other end, landing on my head, claws in full scratch mode.  Fortunately I’d been afraid something like that might happen, so ...   more »

COYOTE IS WAITING

In Navajo lore and legend, Coyote is the trickster, always out to make mischief, trouble, and ultimately disaster.  In many ways Barack Obama is Coyote, always out there waiting, always deceiving. Always, in Navajo, Coyote Tales begin with "Ma'll joldlooshi la eeya"(once upon a time).

It is quite obvious Barack Obama is a hard-ball, Chicago style, crooked politician who is not above doing what ever it takes, no matter what, to win.  If you go back and do a little research into his past history, he won’t hesitate to lie, cheat, or go back on his word.  ...   more »

KINDNESS COUNTS
Jesus said, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father." John 15:12-15

This evening’s discussion was about Absolom Jones, the first African-American Episcopal priest....   more »

WE MUST ALL FORGIVE

This is a funny time of year for me.  From about now until the middle of March is when the ‘bad stuff’ happens in my family.  During the past three years I’ve lost my beloved Clancy (miniature poodle) Siggy, Brunhilda, GeorgieW, and years ago, my grandparents.  Also three years ago starting around the first of March my mother started having severe heart problems that lead to her heart stopping twice.  For the next 8 weeks or so I think my family walks on egg-shells.

I think I mention this because we’ve come full cycle in ...   more »

Spring Training Starts On Feb 14!
Today was absolutely beautiful!  By the time I arrived home about 2:20 it was a good 65 degrees.  There was very little wind, and clear skies.  I opened the balcony doors for the 1st time in 2008 and decided to snuggle down on the sofa for a very rare Sunday nap.  Instead – Rumsfeld barked at everything that moved outside, constantly. He then shredded two of his squeaky toys.  What nap?  It was fun to lay there with my eyes closed and listen to the difference in sounds, and take in ...   more »

CANTERBURY’S DANGEROUS PATH
I want these people to continue on their current path.  I want it out in the open.  I want them to be as outrageous as possible.  As far as Muslims are concerned, we have a secular society.  If you want a society where your religious needs are met, go somewhere else and deal with it.  The current Archbishop of Canterbury has committed the very same mistake the legendary Thomas a Becket committed nearly a thousand year ago.  This is what happens  when “well meaning” idiots like Rowan Williams let their liberal prejudices get in the way ...   more »

PRAYER

"...“…In prayer, we grow in gratitude and thanksgiving. When we spend time with the Almighty, we realize how much He has bestowed upon us -- and our hearts are filled with joy. We give thanks for our families, we give thanks for the parents who raised us, we give thanks for the patient souls who married us, and the children who make us proud each day. We give thanks for our liberty -- and the universal desire for freedom that He has written into every human heart. We give thanks for the God who made us in His image ...   more »

ROWAN WILLIAMS STEPS IN IT – AGAIN!

I find it a but amusing that the "blog world" is suddenly discovering what we Episcopalians have known for ages.  The current Archbishop of Canterbury is an abjectly incompetent fool.  This isn't the first time we've been subjected to his idiocy.  It is the first time the "conservative" blog world has taken notice that the man is a dangerous idiot.  For months those of us who have chosen to remain Episcopalian have been treated a bit like we are liberal morons for not rebelling against those vile (and sometimes gay) Episcopal bishops and ...   more »

SWEARING OFF SWEARING
I’ve already blown my Lenten pledge of now swearing.  I was watching the news and the blank blank blank conservatives came and started hammering McCain.  I was on the phone with my father and said something that is akin to the thing near Las Vegas named after Hoover.   I think there are 38 more days.  Fr. Ron says Sundays don’t count since they are “Feast Days”.

My Forward Day by Day has the following:
“…Paul had long experience with the need for patience, and admitted that he ...   more »

FORGIVING BIG MAC

I think it is time to call a truce.  I am tired of the fighting.  It is counter-productive.  It is hurting us, and it is empowering “the enemy”.  And – when I say “the enemy” I am talking about the Democrats.  It is Lent, a time for reflection, penance, forgiveness, and personal growth.  I don’t quite understand how vilifying a decent human being so that Rush Limbaugh can cover up for his abject hatred of the man is going to do anyone any good.   This said, I am terribly impressed with Hugh Hewitt and am sorry I ...   more »

WHAT WOULD WASHINGTON DO?

“However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

Among his other attributes, George Washington was a man of vision.  He was terribly concerned about the way political parties would eventually degrade into the playground of what he called cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled ...   more »

Spring Training Starts On Feb 14!

Today’s wind has been so bad it is almost obscene.  It is so bad it sounds like the roof is coming off. I think it is the 3rd worst I’ve seen it since I’ve moved here.   You will only find one specific post for today.  I spent nearly 10 hours researching this most recent hit on John McCain.  It is quite nasty.  I think I started working on it around 4:30 this AM when I could not sleep.  I worked until about 10:20, then spent about 3 hours doing church and ...   more »

LOST IN SPACE

I’ve spent the entire day working on a magnum opus about today’s far right conservatives and how they are rapidly losing their minds.  I have nearly 16 pages of commentary, links, and rather damning quotes, but then I realized, what’s the use.  I think perspective is rather important right now.  Today Sean Hannity endorsed Mitt Romney.  Today John McCain was endorsed by the governors of California and Texas.  (I did not say Terminator, but I thought about it).  He was also endorsed by Ted Olsen.

Have you noticed how the conservative MSM talk show, blogging super-stars ...   more »
