TUESDAY, APRIL 29
I think the title just about says it all. I think I had 4 hours sleep last night. Right about now I can barely keep my eyes open. I’ve been tweaking the blog again. Got a few helpful hints on how to make the basted site meter work. We shall see.

Chertoff Lied About BLM Report on Border Fence
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 27, 2008 09:30PM (MDT)
FENCE WOULD CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE
Demands are finally being made to force Michael Chertoff to either resign or be removed from his position as the Secretary of Homeland Security. It is possible the man has a track record of not telling the truth. Last September BLM officials informed Michael Chertoff that the proposed border fence would cause irreparable damage to the fragile San Pedro aquifer and the Riparian sanctuary. Evidently Chertoff LIED about the information the BLM gave to him and just went on as planned, ignoring the Constitution of the US.

A Cochise County Perspective - Part I

COCHISE COUNTY, IMMIGRATION & CRIME
Last weekend some serious charges were leveled at The Pink Flamingo, questioning methods and sources. Several days ago Harold Hutchinson at Called As Seen detailed some of the problems. I was accused by someone who alleges to be from “the border” of not knowing what I’m talking about – of lying.
Years ago, when my sister and I were in high school, a women from our church and her husband confronted my mother, making some off the wall accusations about my sister and I. Our mother never said anything, but went the high school ... more »

YOU'LL FIND YOUR TOMBSTONE
Everyone and their pack mule knew the vast desert along the Mexican border in what was then Pima County, A. T. (Arizona Territory) was literally ‘dripping’ with rich mineral deposits. The problem was the Apache. They were angry. They were fierce, and they were often fatal. Several ill-fated expeditions to Goose Flats, where everyone knew there was bonanza in silver, always ended in disaster. In 1879 Ed Schieffelin, a prospector who was working as an army scout out of Fort Huachuca (the same one) announced he was going to head over to the Goose Flats area ... more »

BACK TO COCHISE COUNTY
Everyone wanted a piece of the action. They wanted their ‘fair share’. They wanted the money. Because the Apache were “under control” it was easier for Mexican merchants to cross the border along specific trade routes that had been established a thousand years pervious (and are still in use today). Tombstone had the money. They could afford things. They paid big money for things, at highly inflated rates. The Mexican traders would make their way back into Sonora, rich, their pockets full of Tombstone gold.
Remember, we’re talking the 1881 equivalent of a TRILLION DOLLARS being ... more »

THE ROAD TO GUADELOUPE CANYON
FROM: A CHURCH FOR HELLDORADO P. 13, 14 49The Gunfight at the OK Corral occurred on October 26, 1881. To make a very long “and involved story as short as possible is to gloss over a hundred salient facts. The bottom line is Wyatt Earp and his brothers had been threatened by misc. Cowboys at misc. times during the previous year. Things came to a head the night of the 25th, when Ike and Frank McLaury rode into town and began drinking. Ike became drunk. He threatened the Earps. All You Need to Know About the FLDS Cult (and It Isn't Nice)
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 25, 2008 08:48PM (MDT)
ARE FLDS PARENTS VICTIMS?
“…FLDS conditioning begins at a young age, when children are taught the outside world is evil, says the author. Instead of hide-and-seek, children play apocalypse. Girls learn they're worthless and must blindly obey their husbands, most of whom are chosen for them. Women are admonished to "keep sweet," to stay in harmony with their husbands, who are their priesthood heads and whose will they must not only obey but also anticipate. Their salvation is at stake. A woman gains eternal life only through her husband, and at his whim, she lives in paradise as a ... more »

Rape, Abuse, Perceptions, & Mothers
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 24, 2008 10:38PM (MDT)
RAPE IS RAPE
Today I am blogging lite. I’ve had a very strange day, escorting my god-daughter around town, taking her to lunch at a local eatery (non chain), then to her consult with Leroy as to her ‘make-over’. We were at the shop of one of my best friends, when a COLLECT call from her confessed pedophile father rang through on her cell. Knowing what I do of the situation, I told her not to answer, call her mother, and have her contact the DA. I watched a 14 year old girl who was having a fun day go ... more »

A Anti-Catholic Minuteman Expose’ (on Video)

THESE ARE THE MINUTEMEN
NOTE: I was planning to a piece on the FLDS (I have some new information) but was side-tracked by this story. I think this is something that needs to be told. I know I am telling it one-sided, against the Minutemen in California. But what I have found is so repulsive and so vile it needs to be exposed to the light of day. It is obvious someone is going to cross the line one of these days and shots are going to be fired. I have a feeling it will be a Minuteman or one ... more »

Are Sheriff Joe’s Follies Catching Up With Him?
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 20, 2008 10:36PM (MDT)
SHERIFF JOE TOSSES BILL OF RIGHTS!
“…So much for my speech. The struggle, I fear, is just getting started. Both our Mayor and Police Chief have challenged the Sheriff. Religious leaders, myself included, will soon be publishing an open letter in the paper, legal challenges will be mounted. No matter what your views on immigration or your ideas on how to solve this immensely complex problem, the Sheriff's heavy-handed intimidation is not the way. I hope that you will join with me and others in the religious community who are doing their best to balance the laws of our country ... more »

The Great Immigration Debate
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 19, 2008 05:24PM (MDT)
A DEBATE
StrataSphere pointed me to it the debate. Right Voices is hosting a forum on immigration. The following is my comment, plus a bit more. If we don't get a handle on the movement of drugs across the border, nothing is going to matter. The problem is - no one wants to believe it.
The thing that frustrates me is the fact that the hard-line anti-immigration supporters are obscuring the real issue: the trafficking of illegal narcotics. The only time the subject is even mentioned is when an “illegal” either on drugs or trafficking drugs commits a crime that ... more »

Do Not Execute Pedophiles
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 17, 2008 11:55PM (MDT)
IT WILL DESTROY THE VICTIMS
Harold Hutchinson at Called As Seen and I rarely disagree. I do this time. Harold agrees with the proposal to execute pedophiles who molest children under the age of 12. Aside from the fact that I do not agree with the death penalty, the worst thing you can do to a victim of molestation is put the burden of execution on them.
“…Patrick Kennedy, a 43-year-old black man from suburban New Orleans, has been sentenced to death after being convicted of raping his eight-year-old stepdaughter, identified in court papers only as “L.H.” He has ... more »

FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHILD
I can’t help contrasting the actions of my friend Chris and the mothers from that breakaway LDS cult. (Prairie Pundit has a good commentary)
I have a real problem with a new trend in “conservative” blogs to complain about the police actions against this cult (Say Anything Blog)
On Easter Sunday Chris discovered that her 14 year old daughter ® had been molested by her father for a period of at least 3 years. Chris called the cops and told them to come pick him up or she was going to ... more »

TUESDAY, APRIL 15

There has a been a fascinating development in my friend's case against her pedophile husband. He has done a plea - life! I'll write more about it tomorrow.
I think I've had about 6 hours of sleep since Saturday. I drove the parents to Las Cruces today for a doctor appointment that turned out to be a wild goose chase.

Would a Barack Obama Administration Lead to a Reign of Terror?
by

I TOLD YOU HE WAS LIKE SULLA
John Fund’s take on Obama.
“…As a state legislator he was even more off-center. In 1996, he opposed the Defense of Marriage Act, which the Senate approved 85-14 and President Clinton signed into law. He twice voted "present" on a bill to ban partial-birth abortions. In 1999, he was the only state senator to oppose a law that prohibited early prison release for sex offenders.Mr. Obama also backed a total ban on handguns, a move his campaign now says was the result of a rogue aide filling out a questionnaire. But Mr. ... more »

What’s Going on in Juarez?

IT ISN’T GOOD
From the Opinionated Times comes a piece about the cops in Juarez.
My friend Maggie has a brother who lives in Juarez, married to a woman whose family has lived there for many years. They had a very good life up until the past few years. The problem with all the anti-immigration hype is the fact that Mexico has many social classes have been completely obscured. Once upon a time, life in Juarez was good.
When I moved to New Mexico a decade ago, it was nothing for someone to go to Juarez for a day ... more »

Sheriff Joe and the FBI

AND OTHER IMMIGRATION FOLLIES
For your edification, I have provide a bunch o’ immigration links. I think the theme here is the possibility that people are starting to pay attention to the various and sundry outrageous committed by the various and sundry anti-immigration organization and political entities throughout the civilized world. Then there is Sheriff Joe and those nasty illegals (maybe). Mayor Phil Gordon of Phoenix has requested the FBI investigate Sheriff Joe Arpaio for
“…pattern and practice of conduct that includes discriminatory harassment, improper stops, searches and arrests."… Gordon's four-page letter details Arpaio's recent sweeps through predominantly Latino ... more »

April Fool’s Day – I’ve Behaved – Really I Have?
by
SJ Reidhead
on April 1, 2008 09:53PM (MDT)
TUESDAY, APRIL 1
I’ve not pulled off a primo April Fool’s Day event in ages. Maybe the problem is the fact that I peaked too soon. It’s hard to follow up on the prank my sister and I pulled when I was in the 4th grade. We went to elementary school in Seneca at Northside. (John Edwards went to Southside). The school was about 15 miles from our home in Fair Play. Our father’s business was in Cross Roads about 7 miles out of Seneca.
There were times when our mother would be late picking us up after school. ... more »
