The Pink Flamingo Has Moved - Finally!
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 23, 2008 01:59PM (MST)
NOW POSTING AT THE NEW SITEI have officially moved The Pink Flamingo to the new address: thepinkflamingoblog.com. Until we can figure out a way to migrate the Blogware materials to the new site, I am using this one as an archive. I will be doing some furniture - moving at the new site for awhile, but cross-posting is a pain and I just need to force myself to use the Word Press site. I have found it is easier for people to make comments at the new site. more »

Word Press Problems Being Solved - Cat Disaster Looming
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 23, 2008 12:30AM (MST)
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22 Press Harbor and I are now friends. We're getting the problems solved to the point where I hope to stop posting here at the Blog Harbor site in the next few days! I've hired professional help for the rest of the "move". I'm trying to move my Wyatt Earp Books site to Press Harbor, but it seems like we have some problems with Yahoo. CAT HEART-ACHESomething is seriously wrong with Little Joe Cartwright. He is constantly picking fights with Bat Masterson to the point where Bat is a mess, and a total wreck. I've started to ... more »

Remembering C. S. Lewis
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 22, 2008 11:20PM (MST)
1889 - 1963 C. S. Lewis died the same day as did President John F. Kennedy. Perhaps the greatest Christian writer and thinker of the 20th Century,
he left a remarkable legacy of books, science, fiction, and fantasy. FIVE TIPS FOR GOOD WRITING: 1. Always try to use the language so as to make quite clear what you mean and make sure your sentence couldn’t mean anything else.
2. Always prefer the clean direct word to the long, vague one. Don’t implement promises, but keep them.
3. Never use abstract nouns when concrete ones will do. If you mean ... more »

Part III: What Is a "Reagan Conservative"
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 21, 2008 10:00PM (MST)
IN HIS OWN WORDS
CPAC, February 6, 1977 ’m happy to be back with you in this annual event after missing last year’s meeting. I had some business in New Hampshire that wouldn’t wait.
Three weeks ago here in our nation’s capital I told a group of conservative scholars that we are currently in the midst of a re-ordering of the political realities that have shaped our time. We know today that the principles and values that lie at the heart of conservatism are shared by the majority.
Despite what some in the press may say, we who are proud ... more »

PART II: Are Republicans Different from Conservatives?
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 21, 2008 09:58PM (MST)
WHAT IS A REPUBLICAN"...And just to set the record straight, let me say this about our friends who are now Republicans but who do not identify themselves as conservatives: I want the record to show that I do not view the new revitalized Republican Party as one based on a principle of exclusion. After all, you do not get to be a majority party by searching for groups you won’t associate or work with. If we truly believe in our principles, we should sit down and talk.
Talk with anyone, anywhere, at any time if it means talking about ... more »

PART I: Has Conservative Talk Radio Doomed the GOP?
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 21, 2008 09:22PM (MST)
AN INTERESTING QUESTION:(This is the first in a series of small "think" pieces designed to examine why the GOP is now a "loser". Watch for additional installments throughout the weekend.)
FiveThirtyEight has an
interesting commentary today about the intriguing possibility that the
very success of conservative talk radio has doomed the GOP.
I've been coming close to reaching the same conclusion. I
would like to see a break-down of talk show listeners and how they
voted, or as I suspect, did not vote.
The problem
with conservative talk radio is the ASSUME factor. Remember
ASS = U + ME. ... more »

Failure Should Be An Option
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 21, 2008 01:06AM (MST)
THE FEAR OF FAILURE
I was listening to Wayne Allen Root discuss failure. I agree with his theory that people need to be able to fail in order to be able to succeed. As we watch three one powerful corporations come calling, hat in hand, begging for billions, Democrats are rushing around to prop them up, crying that failure should not be allowed.
Indeed, that is the very problem with liberals and with Democrats. They cannot allow failure. The very failure to allow failure is a commentary on the mind-set of these individuals. The very act of refusing to ... more »

Still Wating to Hear from Press Harbor
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 20, 2008 11:44PM (MST)
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20
It has been well over 24 hours since I first emailed Press Harbor about the problems I am encountering with the Pink Flamingo's Word Press blog. I have yet to hear from them. Fortunately I have attracted some "professional" help. Naturally everything will be MY fault. I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of people who refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes. I do. Heck, I screw up all the time. Maybe I'm the only one who does.
Are you as alarmed and confused about the story out of AZ about the 8 year ... more »

DID SOMETHING LAND?Have you heard the one about that huge meteor that sailed across Canada this evening and blew up with a huge fire ball? "...CTV Calgary has also received several calls about the fireball, and one witness said it was so bright that it was visible from the Deerfoot freeway in the city's core. Other witnesses in Lloydminster, located on the border of Alberta and Saskatchewan, said the light was so strong that it appeared to be daylight when it passed over the area. And locals at the Red Pheasant First Nation, 100 kilometres northeast of ... more »

SHARIA & ARPAIO?
If Maricopa County did not have enough problems, having just re-elected Joe Arpaio, is now going to have Sharia to deal with. According to Robert Spencer:"...“A Muslim must try his best to abide by the rulings of Sharia [Islamic law] whenever possible as much as he can. He should not allow himself to be liable to those western laws that contradict the clear-cut Islamic rulings.” The rulings of Sharia, mind you, include stoning for adultery, amputation of the hand for theft, and institutionalized discrimination against women and non-Muslims. HOMELAND INSECURITY
Michael Medved, for whom I have a tremendous amount of respect, says we need to quit bashing Obama for awhile. I want to go on record stating that I am not bashing The One. I'm just calling 'em as I sees 'em.
At least he's an agent for change.
Change is bringing the former Senate Majority Leader back to power, even though his wife has a little lobby problem. But - not to worry - it's CHANGE. And, his idea of change is a radical over-haul of our health care system. We're also being warned that there ... more »

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19 I've been spending the day working on the Word Press blog at thepinkflamingoblog.com. I thought I had it ready to go, but something happened and the "Index" is now being re-directed to a defunct post. I've tried contacting Press Harbor since about 4:30 today and have yet to hear from them. This is getting old, fast.
Consequently this is the only post for today. I'm annoyed and too tired to do much more tonight.

Will Conservatives Ever Learn How to Behave?
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 19, 2008 01:03AM (MST)
NO CONSERVATIVE SOROSDoes the credit for Barack Obama's Democratic Victory belong to Obama, the Democrats, or to George Soros?
Is it possible the reason George Soros was able to spread copious amounts of cash around to attract all the loony leaning left because the Left did not have a working talk radio machine?
Listening to Rush today as he proudly stated that he was a conservative over a Republican I realized we're in bad shape. I'm not worried about Rush Limbaugh. When all is said and done, he votes Republican. He's not the real problem, not really.

Cat Trouble Continues

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18
This morning I discovered two of my missing shot glasses downstairs in my bedroom. Considering the martini glass was in the guest room, it makes one wonder what the cats were up to this weekend. You've probably heard of the term 'three dog night', well, last night was a 'four cat night'! When I woke up this morning, Doc was snuggled under the covers with me. Bubbles was snuggled by one knee, and Hoss spooning up against here. Mommy Cat, believe it or not, was at the foot of the bed. Naturally Rumsfeld was still at the ... more »

Minutemen Imploding Continues - Gilchrist Denounces His Monsters

IMMIGRATION A LOSER FOR THE GOPThe SPLC brings us the lovely and welcomed tale about the ongoing implosion of the minutemen, et. al. Jim Gilchrist is denouncing the movement he helped to create. They are denouncing him. It makes for a wonderful story of how, when you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas!"...Gilchrist, who has spent the past four years of his life trying to keep immigrants out of the country, is an unlikely booster for ethnically diverse neighborhoods. SECRETARY OF STATE? (or) STOOD UP AGAIN?Rumors are that Hillary Clinton is going to accept the offer of Secretary of State. That's good. She will excel at the post. Let's just say she would do a better job than John Kerry or Bill Richardson.
The messiah-elect is so incompetent and so shallow, when the Clintons start looking good, you know we have a problem. I don't know about you, but if I can't have John McCain in office, I would rather have Bill Clinton behind the scenes than The One's vast inexperience and incompetence.

Cats Behaving Badly
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 17, 2008 11:34PM (MST)
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17 I arrived home about 7PM. After unloading the car, and seeing parents on their way, I headed inside to survey the damage of being away from home for a week. I called Josie, who was feeding the cats for me to ask when she'd last been here, and how messy was the house when she was here. I was correct in my fears that it was clean when she was here Saturday afternoon.
The condo was a scene out of those kitty litter commercials where the neighborhood cats have had a wild and crazy party. THEY TRASHED ... more »

Celebrating the Life of Endicott Peabody
by

THE ROAD TO SAINTHOOD
I have a very special affinity for Endicott Peabody. Last year the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona added him to their liturgical calender. That is the 1st step toward Anglican sainthood. Every once in awhile, we do something good in life. One of the greatest things a writer can do is influence the world, for the better. I have the honor of having transcribed Endicott Peabody's 1882 Tombstone Diary and turning it into a book: A Church for Helldorado. It is because of my book that Peabody is now being cosidered for sainthood. If you are ... more »

GOOD DEEDS SHOULD BE REWARDED
Thanks to errors that led us exactly where we were “supposed” to be Sunday afternoon at 2PM. The Outback Steakhouse in Sierra Vista, Arizona was hosting to a fund-raiser for the Loretto School in Douglas, Arizona.
Imagine a top restaurant chain donating, time, money, personnel, and tips to assisting a Catholic school raise money!
Not only that, but they were not ashamed to promote the assistance with a Catholic – a CHRISTIAN – organization.

WE KNEW IT WAS COMING
Around South Carolina, the very conservative junior senator who is the conservative darling, is considered a bit of a diva who will ham it up for any camera. There's never been one he doesn't like. If there's a camera within 100 miles, he's going to find a way to get onto television. The conservative world likes to rail against the recently re-elected senior senator, Lindsey Graham, but in South Carolina, Lindsey is the "beloved" Senator and DeMint is the also ran. He is an also-ran who doesn't like being upstaged. So, this week, when the ... more »

What Do You Know About Lupus?
by
SJ Reidhead
on November 15, 2008 11:42PM (MST)
A DREADFUL DISEASEMy heart isn't in blogging tonight.
Regular Pink Flamingo readers may be familiar with the exploits of my 9 year old "niece" Sydney. Her mother, my other "sister" has lupus. Alicia has been under a tremendous amount of stress lately. When she went for her regular check-up and blood-tests, she discovered that her blood platelets are very very low, which is not good. Before where the disease was attacking her limbs the way arthritis would, it is now attacking her internal organs.
Like so many other diseases, Lupus research suffers from a terrible want in funding. No ... more »

HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE?
(Let me count the ways)
The Democrats excel at corruption. They are so good at it, so excellent they have turned it into an art form. They can almost literally “get away with murder” they are “so good”.
The GOP just can’t seem to get it’s act together when it comes to being morally corrupt. They get caught every time. Unlike their Democratic counterparts, when Republicans get caught, instead of closing ranks around the “accused’ they act like a deer in the headlights of a big-rig, unable to move. AN INFORMAL SURVEY
Last night I spent some time visiting with 4 colleagues: Ron Paul leaner Libertarian-Independent Social Moderate "Normal" ConservativeAll but one voted for John McCain. The way things stand now, only 1 of those people would vote GOP in a generic election with a generic candidate. Only 1 now "identifies" as Republican, but all were Republican at one time.
I posed the following question: If Sarah Palin were at the top of the ticket would you vote for her. All four said they could and would vote for her! There was one caveat. My Libertarian-Independent leaning ... more »
